Forums - Nintendo - Can motion controls work for action RPG games on the Wii?

I've heard a lot of people complain that if KH3 went on the Wii, or any hack and slash/action RPG game, that it would be horrible to control with the waggle since it would be tiring and boring. Well I was thinking about this earlier and one game came to mind, Okami.

It uses motion control, and there is a LOT of battling in that game. It never bothered me once, and in fact that's one of my favorite games ever.

Now I'm wondering if it's just that I have super amazing wrists, or if anyone else feels like I do. I'm starting to wonder if the haters are using "wrist waggle pain" as just an excuse as to why games like KH3 shouldn't go on the Wii. Does anyone here suffer from waggle pain? Is it just a myth? Don't get me wrong, I loved the way NMH controlled, but I don't see why a complete motion controlled battlesystem wouldn't work fine. My super wrists can handle it.

I realize I mentioned KH3 a few times, but i don't intend for this to turn into another one of those threads. :P

I think it can work fine, with a combat system kind of like No More Heroes'.

There are ways to make it work, developers might just need to be a bit creative.

I'm concurring with you.

Alright, but while a NMH style would (obviously) work well, I still think that a full fledged motion control only battle system would work just fine. Do you agree with that?

Hooooooo.

You're gonna have to go into greater detail as to what that would entail. I haven't played Okami so that comparison don't help me much, but I have played Twilight Princess and generally wasn't bothered by that during my long, long, long play sessions.

Try playing Mario Strikers Charged.

Its the best game on the wii in my opinion...but my wrists...ouch!

yes it'd totally work. i think the whole point of motion controls is that that type of game would be better on the wii than a classic controller system. action rpgs are exactly the type of game that the motion controls (especially with motion+) would really make a huge difference in. and no i wouldn't say you have super wrists, anyone that says they'd get tired or have hurt wrists from playing an action rpg or any game like that has clearly just a hater. its not like you have to wave a 5 lbs weight around. the wiimote is very light. anyone who's played zelda tp knows that hours of wiimote sword swinging action doesn't do anything bad to your wrist/arm and isn't even the slight bit tiring.

so yes, action rpgs are one of the genres that the motion controls will make the biggest positive difference in over regular controllers.

end of '08 predictions: wii - 43 million,  360 - 25 million, ps3 - 20 million

Games I've beat recently: Super Mario Galaxy, Knights of the Old Republic, Shadow of the Collossus

Proud owner of wii, gamecube, xbox, ps2, dreamcast, n64, snes, genesis, 3DO, nes, atari, intellivision, unisonic tournament 2000, and gameboy

I guess the complaint usually is to have something to complain about (and surely, the PS360 owners would like to see games on their consoles instead of Wii).
It seems that everytime i get a game that's titled with "Wii", i get my arms aching, though it shows that i'm in bad shape (now that i got my Wii back from repair, i finally got to play Wii Music).

The waggling doesn't hurt my wrists either, after all i've trained waggling by myself for years.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

I'm like you in that my wrists weren't affected. So for me it would be fine. NMH style would be ok with me too. I've only had one game hurt me, and that was Mario and Sonic at the Olympics........and it wasn't my wrists so much, more my arms. That pumping motion for the 100m dash hurt me for the first few days of it, but it soon disappeared.
