Oh I 100% agree with what you are saying. It is just that the Sony bashing is getting a bit out of hand. To the point where we had users here talking about how WKC has not even experienced the success of Blue Dragon yet because of userbase size and various other BS arguments. Yet I did not see PS3 fans allowed to use the same argument to make 360 RPG's look bad in the US when we have an SRPG like "Disgaea 3" passing up their prized JRPG jewel "Tales of Vesperia". Everytime PS3 fans tried to use it they would have the 360 fans try to shut their argument down, yet now we see them using it and all of a sudden it is fine.
To me this is just like the LBP scenario. Everytime PS3 fans had something to say about the "LBP is HUGE" comments it was considered "damage control". Now what do we call this considering the fact that we went through god knows how long of "360 is the DEFINITIVE JRPG console this gen" and other nonsense like that?
Like they said before, nothing but damage control, yet at the same time it is also hypocritical. I have been saying this all day and I get shit on for it with comments like "You have short memory I see."
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Oh, so 360 is up 100 percent thanks to nothing, while PS3 is only up because of the second week of WKC sales? Failure. 360 is up because of all the JRPGs, and the price cut in JP. Let's get that straight. |
But can we still really talk about something that happened almost 5 months ago as a reason for a 360 boost? The price cut was in september 08, that is looong ago, would that really cause a sales spike now? in japan? I disagree. As for these JRPGs what new ones are those? The only JRPG coming for 360 which possible will cause a spike is SO4.
With the PS3 it had WKC to help it push sales, not quite sure how that statment can be seen as "failure" exactly? Without that game not sure you can assume the PS3 sales would be that high?
So i stand by what i said 360 is up because of nothing simply because in the general scheme of things 11k then 19k sales are nothing. And PS3 is up because of WKC which is doing very well.
To further justify what i was saying figures show Japanese gaming sales fell by over 15% in 2008, 2009 looks set to drop further. So as i also said it will be interesting to see what happens to the sales figures across the board in the next few weeks. Will they stay the same as last year or fall further down? Personally as i said it will be down and be down a lot.
Is this dissidia's 3rd week? If so, wow. Not even a 50% drop from previous week.
This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*

Hahaha, this is what I called owned.
Seriously the famitsu chart actually had me worried for a while due to me misinterpreting the colour code. These number appear to be at the lower end of the prediction but at least it's within the margin of error true. I still have hope that this will reach 500k in Japan but its current LTD has already own a lot of pessimistic prediction hard.

@ hyruken:

And you can say that without the game the sales would be lower? No you can't, not without proof, just like the thing you were just trying to discredit from DmeisterJ
And seriously, the 360 rose "because of nothing"? Then a lot of stupid people out there, just buying a 360 for no reason at all. Obviously, the price cut, the better stream of games and the focus MS has put into the 360 in Japan have helped it. A lot of people wait for purchases until the end of the year, so it is very likely that all these factors combined helped it spur on sales, just like games / advertizing / more focus and attention from Sony helped them reach the 60k they got now.
You are trying to discredit someone else's words while the same applies to yours.

I disagree so much. We have DQ9, GT5, FF 13, and two Monster Hunter games in 2009! Those are some big sellers.

Your first point was so dumb that it actually hurt me. I don't want to be a dick, but it's true. So what if the price cut was 5 months ago? Did Microsoft decide that they were going to reverse the price drop towards the biggest time of the year? The price cut has just as much effect as it had when it first went into effect, and the 360 has been ridiculously cheap in Japan for a while anyways. By the way, he was talking about JRPGs already on the platform. The ones 360 fans love to brag about so much. The games that 360 fans play not because they actually enjoy them, but just because they have the most of them and they want to spite the other console owners. Last year, the 360 had pretty much nothing outside of Halo 3 (which is incredibly western focused) and still sold 50% of what it sold this year. The PS3 is smashing it with one RPG, and would be smashing it even without it. And you're really proud of this one miniature year over year improvement? The Xbox had an excuse for not being big in Japan, as almost none of the games released appealed to the Japanese market (Dead or Alive was the biggest game on the Xbox, sadly). What's the 360's excuse with its critically acclaimed RPGs? Nevermind.
And how did WKC push sales? First you say that the PS3 is down year over year and then you claim that White Knight is boosting the system's sales? I'm sure I could find, in just minutes, a quote from you or other 360 fans claiming that White Knight had no effect on the PS3's hardware sales. More hypocrisy, my favorite. By the way, you're right. The 360 is up by almost nothing, but it's certainly not because of nothing. This goes along with my first paragraph.
The main reason this year in Japan was smaller than the last one is because the DS had sold such an insane amount of units that the userbase became completely saturated and hardware sales plummeted (now boosted by the DSi). The PSP, despite selling big amounts, couldn't pick up the slack. As for the Wii, it's down because last year it had Wii Fit, which happened to be so big that it produced lines around the block. It also had Super Mario Galaxy, which was incredibly well reviewed and featured the very icon of gaming. With Nintendo only realing Wii Music and Animal Crossing, is it any wonder why the Wii is down? The market is mostly down because of the recession anyways, but next year will definitely see an improvement thanks to the huge games being released (as outlined by Outlawauron).

No offence but how can you say something that happend 5 months ago effected what happened this week? That sounds rather dumb to me and pretty silly all round. In Japan as with the rest of the world the current 360 price has been that price for nearly half a year. Comes a time when you have to say "hey that is the 360s price". Rather then say "oh the 360 did well because it dropped its price 4 years ago" understand?
WKC boosted the PS3 sales this week to make them on par with last years. I don't think anyone can argue that. One of the biggest openings for a PS3 game and it didn't boost sales? Do you realise how stupid that sounds?
As for the 360 fan thing how mature of you! Can't win nor even present a valid argument so i must be from your nemesis side right? Well then lets look at it. These JRPG's that you mention that me and all the other xbots talk about, what ones would they be then?
As for blaming the DS for the japanese market fall is just plain laughable. Lets look at some figures shall we?
PS3 figures in Japan comparing the past 4 months to last years past 4 months. Sept 08 = 33k, Oct 08 = 60k, Nov 08 = 96k, Dec 08 = 149k. Total = 338k. Now lets look at the same months for 07 shall we? Sept 07 = 51k, Oct 07 = 55k, Nov 07 = 177k, Dec 07 = 205k. Total = 488k.
Which means in the past 4 months compared to the same 4 months in 07 means the PS3 dropped 150k. That means in the last 4 months alone the PS3 dropped sales by over 35% on the same period last year. So that adds even more evidence to what i said while totally disproving everything you said. The gaming market in Japan is down and down on all fronts and will continue to go down. What evidence do you have to say it will go up? You think the games you list will make it go up in 09 in Japan? Well again look back over the past 4 months in Japan and you see a lot of high profile Japanese games released for the consoles but especially for the PS3 and the numbers were either flat or lower. The first data of 09 shows the trend to be the same but on other platforms i.e Wii to be a lot worse. So i will take you up on your prediction 09 will see an improvement in sales because i fail to see how anything will stop that tide especially for PS3 and Wii right now. If im right you must quit as a mod and never come back to the forum where as if your right i will do the same, deal? :)

Yeah, 3rd week - excellent sales!
Just wanted to add that Famitsu have Crisis Core at 803,000 copies sold, as most leaks have it at 797,000. Not much of a difference, really, just wanted to post the accurate number.
