But can we still really talk about something that happened almost 5 months ago as a reason for a 360 boost? The price cut was in september 08, that is looong ago, would that really cause a sales spike now? in japan? I disagree. As for these JRPGs what new ones are those? The only JRPG coming for 360 which possible will cause a spike is SO4. With the PS3 it had WKC to help it push sales, not quite sure how that statment can be seen as "failure" exactly? Without that game not sure you can assume the PS3 sales would be that high? So i stand by what i said 360 is up because of nothing simply because in the general scheme of things 11k then 19k sales are nothing. And PS3 is up because of WKC which is doing very well. To further justify what i was saying figures show Japanese gaming sales fell by over 15% in 2008, 2009 looks set to drop further. So as i also said it will be interesting to see what happens to the sales figures across the board in the next few weeks. Will they stay the same as last year or fall further down? Personally as i said it will be down and be down a lot. |
Your first point was so dumb that it actually hurt me. I don't want to be a dick, but it's true. So what if the price cut was 5 months ago? Did Microsoft decide that they were going to reverse the price drop towards the biggest time of the year? The price cut has just as much effect as it had when it first went into effect, and the 360 has been ridiculously cheap in Japan for a while anyways. By the way, he was talking about JRPGs already on the platform. The ones 360 fans love to brag about so much. The games that 360 fans play not because they actually enjoy them, but just because they have the most of them and they want to spite the other console owners. Last year, the 360 had pretty much nothing outside of Halo 3 (which is incredibly western focused) and still sold 50% of what it sold this year. The PS3 is smashing it with one RPG, and would be smashing it even without it. And you're really proud of this one miniature year over year improvement? The Xbox had an excuse for not being big in Japan, as almost none of the games released appealed to the Japanese market (Dead or Alive was the biggest game on the Xbox, sadly). What's the 360's excuse with its critically acclaimed RPGs? Nevermind.
And how did WKC push sales? First you say that the PS3 is down year over year and then you claim that White Knight is boosting the system's sales? I'm sure I could find, in just minutes, a quote from you or other 360 fans claiming that White Knight had no effect on the PS3's hardware sales. More hypocrisy, my favorite. By the way, you're right. The 360 is up by almost nothing, but it's certainly not because of nothing. This goes along with my first paragraph.
The main reason this year in Japan was smaller than the last one is because the DS had sold such an insane amount of units that the userbase became completely saturated and hardware sales plummeted (now boosted by the DSi). The PSP, despite selling big amounts, couldn't pick up the slack. As for the Wii, it's down because last year it had Wii Fit, which happened to be so big that it produced lines around the block. It also had Super Mario Galaxy, which was incredibly well reviewed and featured the very icon of gaming. With Nintendo only realing Wii Music and Animal Crossing, is it any wonder why the Wii is down? The market is mostly down because of the recession anyways, but next year will definitely see an improvement thanks to the huge games being released (as outlined by Outlawauron).
