Hmmm. I missed out on the games I guess. Maybe I should try to get myself a copy of both games.

15 EURO on steam for the Max Payne bundle. Not bad. I can recommend it. You did miss the steam sale though :(

Thanks

Well... It's just that max payne 1 sold so freaking good... They hoped that Max Payne 2 would sell as well

heres from an interview:

http://www.yougamers.com/articles/1820_scott_miller_-_the_man_who_would_be_king-page3/
Scott: That is always the goal. With Max Payne, for example, we always planned for a long series. I’m still puzzled to this day why – after 3D Realms and Remedy sold the IP to Take2 – there’s not been a Max Payne 3. That’s a franchise that sold over 7 million copies between two games. We should be hearing about Max 4 in development by now.

Word on the street is that MP1 sold around 4-5 million.. & MP2 1-2 million... So Max Payne was dissapointing in term of sales for the Publisher...

Ok, to me the first game was ok. I had some fun with it, but the story was RIDICULOUS. It took a realistic, powerful McGuffin for a character story and made it ridiculous by the direction the story took.

Max Payne 2, on the other hand, stayed grounded in its noir roots and had an amazingly tight narrative that built character relationships that paid off in its denouement. It also had a better implementation of the gameplay features introduced in the first game. And Late Goodbye is forever imprinted on my mind as a great ending song. But the game was really short.

Overall, I think MP2 is one of the best sequels ever in that it improved in almost every way on the original and was ultimately more memorable.

Exactly my feelings as well.

MP2 was awesome. Easily one of my fav of all time.

I've played only MP 2 and had much fun. It's a great game. Yes, it's a bit short, but every second was/ is very entertaining.

Where in the hell did you get the idea that people didn't like Max Payne 2. It was critically acclaimed, and the internet freakin' loved it for the most part, still do. Both MP games are great, and I've never heard anyone say that either one of those games suck. You have yourself a misconception here.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

That's his point... cause the sales were way worse then MP1.. It was a good game so why didn't it sell as much as 1??

Didn't they like it? or where there other factors? Like other games that were released?

No, I think Max Payne 2 just was not at all as hyped as the first game. I remember looking at the first games screens and going Waow! but I cannot recall any real hype surrounding the second game in the magazines I was reading at the time.

The first game was a HUGE blip on the radar, but the second one had employed subtle stealth. At least this is how I remember it.

Funny, following the advice of Shio on these forums I just played through both games this past week.

The series is now one of my favorite series in gaming. The storyline and presentation is astonishing, and the writing surpasses that of most games and movies. I do prefer the second game however, the first one had a rather cliche plot, a little overblown as well. The second game was more introspective, grounded in reality with a lot of depth. There was a lot of thinking material in MP2's script.

The reason the first game sold so well as opposed to MP2 was because of the bullet time feature that was introduced with MP1. The Matrix style effect was extremely popular at the time and MP1was the first to translate it into gameplay.
