It took a realistic, powerful McGuffin for a character story and made it ridiculous by the direction the story took. Max Payne 2, on the other hand, stayed grounded in its noir roots and had an amazingly tight narrative that built character relationships that paid off in its denouement. It also had a better implementation of the gameplay features introduced in the first game. And Late Goodbye is forever imprinted on my mind as a great ending song. But the game was really short. Overall, I think MP2 is one of the best sequels ever in that it improved in almost every way on the original and was ultimately more memorable. |
Exactly my feelings as well.
