No, I think Max Payne 2 just was not at all as hyped as the first game. I remember looking at the first games screens and going Waow! but I cannot recall any real hype surrounding the second game in the magazines I was reading at the time.
The first game was a HUGE blip on the radar, but the second one had employed subtle stealth. At least this is how I remember it.
