Forums - Sales - The Next GTA comes to wii?

Core gamers are also technopiles to some extent. Given a choice of the same game on a more core technophile machine will have predominent sales on that machine. GTA 4 Wii vs PS360 will mostly sell on the PS360. A custom GTA game that plays like 4, but is very different in story will likely do the apx the same or better than it's HD version.

Serious GTA fans will buy the game on whatever system, then theres the percentage userbase that will also buy the game. The thing is it's expensive to produce a special game on a system with a "casual" rep.

A spin-off like GTA SA, or GTA VC would sell like crazy.... it just needs quality and hype, consumers aren't stupid. As long as it's a solid game with no glaring weaknesses it should have no problem having sales comparable to those of Guitar Hero games on Wii.  COD5 Wii had many glaring weaknesses compared to it's counterparts (not just grafx) while Guitar Hero didn't.  A GTA 4 port or remake for Wii would be a lame idea, something new and fresh exclussively for Wii, designed from the ground up would sell.  GTA Wii: The Big Apple :P

GTA 5 probably wont even come out this gen, most likely Xbox720, Wii HD and PS4.

A spin-off? Very likely, but I don't expect it to sell very well. The Wii's audience (generalising here) doesn't tend to like games of that genre, especially if they are third party.

After all, the top five selling Wii games are all first party developed, there are only two first party games in the top ten, and you have to go down to 22nd, to RE4 Wii Edition with 1.73 million sales, to get to an M-Rated game.

GTA V? No way in hell. The million or so sales they would get are not worth the cost and inconvenience of porting it and making it run on Wii. Plus, I don't think Sony and Microsoft would just let it go.

-If the game is quality and advertised decently it will sell well.  I'd say at least 3 million if it's good.

-There are no games of this genre or any "M" games for that matter on Wii that are even close to being GTA calibar.

-For an old GC port RE:4 had some great sales, it even outsold the GC version.

-Besides RE:4, what M rated Wii game is even worth buying?  COD5 is a gimped joke (not just grafx but nearly everything) , Manhunt 2 blows and flopped hard on PS2 also.  No More Heroes is a basement budget niche game.  Not sure if Alone in the Dark is M rated or not but it's weak as hell too.

-Zelda Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros Brawl are all hardcore games that had excellent sales, sure they aren't an M rated shoot-em-up blood fest, but they don't seem like games that soccer moms or seniors citizens would buy...

edit: how would Sony and Microsoft prevent R* from making a game for Wii unless they bought the rights to it?

I don't know how little GTA fits with the Wiis base. I mean, the Wii one is the closest one to the Ps2 one.

 Also, what is he comparing?

A game that sold 7M & 4M last gen

The best selling franchise last gen

Also, the Wii wouldn't need to be even close to as largely scaled, and could easily have less than 1/10th of the budget (GTA IV = 100M, SMG was 15M, they're not going to make it costier than SMG)

I'd still say that GTA should stay at Ps3/X360 though, as its sales will probably be at least 2x the size over a Wii version.

But heck, why don't they port GTA:SA/VC on 1 disc over to Wii? That would cash in a fair amount...

Oh what the hell, Take2 is probably earning heaps on the Wii already.

Not enough to post profits...

They're turning profit on the Wii - that's for sure.

Sure, they might have lost money on

Go Diego Go! Safari Rescue (250K sold)

Dora Saves the Snow Princess (140K and selling)

The Bigs (320K)

Table Tennis (170K)

No, wait, they earned heaps on that. My mistake :P

They are also definitely earning money on the 2nd best selling 3rd party game on Wii...

a couple notes here, table tennis sales are just NA, and it got the ELSPA award for 100k in UK a while ago so i'm pretty sure it's got quite good sales in Europe.

the bigs on wii is the highest selling version, there is 360, ps3, ps2, and psp version as well.

the other 2 are shovelware.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Perhaps GTA4 will show up on the next Wii if they don't screw up the GPU like they did with the Wii... no programmable shaders... wtf do they think this is 2001?

Oh, I really dismissed them all as very low-budget games, but that may have been wrong.

My point was that T2 is doing very well on Wii. Not only with Carnival Games (which sold over 3M, and has a sequel which could sell 2M), but also with low-budget titles that sell a decent number.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

it's very possible, the fact that there's a Ds version of GTA produced means a lot!

also, it wouldn't cost as much as the Ps3/Xbox360 and it would sell a lot.....

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

If Rockstar decides that they still like money, then yes. If they decide that money is no longer their thing, and that they don't need it, then no. Trying to figure out how Rockstar thinks. I'm undecided about whether they like money or not. With that, GTA on Wii is uncertain.

I think T2 already dropped huge hints on a GTA Wii.

"We can't ignore the Wii userbase. We just can't"
"Chinatown Wars will be a good testcase to see how more mature games sell on DS and Wii"

It's obvious there will be a GTA on Wii. GTAIV underperformed, they made a loss in the year a main GTA releases. They have to bring their biggest franchise to the biggest platform.

I don't know what's a main series GTA, it will not be GTAV, but more something like San Andreas. I hope they use the PS2 engine and improve the style to represent the artstyle of the boxarts.
