they'll cover it. mind got the RROD on christmas and i had it for almost 2 years. i called them and they told me to send it in.

Uhm as long as he has a Windows LIVE ID and he knows his password it should be possible to recover his Gamertag on any 360.
Or am I mistaken here ?

Where in the world did you get your information MrBubbles? Barozi is right. As an example, I'm on my third different Xbox, yet Live transfers everytime. Another example is my friend, who has a Xbox Live Gamertag but does not have an Xbox. He uses it on mine and another friends. He transfers his Gamertag every time he's at one of our houses. You just need to know your Windows Live ID and the password.

A Live account transfered to another account? Not sure what you are saying. If you have a Xbox Live account, that account can be used on any Xbox, original or 360, and long as you know the associated windows live account and password.

Depending. If he got an extended warranty from the store he bought it, he probably can just exchange it for another and have another Xbox connected to his TV in 30 min to an hour like me. If not, then there are other things in life than video games to spend your time on. A week or two without video games is not that big a deal. Especially if you have other game systems or a PC.

All the shops are closed now, it is Minus Temperatures outside, Sure if it was Summer he would have plenty to do, Winter not so much except soccer training. He's having second thoughts about replacing his 360 (He cant play it for extended periods now without thinking of RROD).
