Some of you just sound down right stupid! You are just saying FF XI is better because you love to see the dormant FF VII fans come out of the woodwork with Flame Throwers blazing. Stop being childish.

I can understand FF X being seen as better then FF VII, but IX? Have you lost it? IX is over all one of the most HATED of the FF series, followed by FF XII. I think it also might have been the lowest selling one as well, might need to check. I personally like FF IX but would never bewitch my lips to utter the blasphemy that is it being better then VII! SHEESH!!!

And VII's most closest relatives are VI and VIII in the way the game plays and feels. VII and VI share a steam punk, gritty underworld feel to it. VII and VIII share similar character designs, at least with arch types. VII's characters are vastly superior to VIIIs though as many of that cast were not even developed. VII will take you on a personal journey with each of it's characters, with all of them even having a secret boss battle, and story element.

Like I said, VII is the BEST! TRUTH!

Final Fantasy IX. FFVII is the most over hyped and overrated game ever produced. Take the worst elements of FFVI, stretch across three CDs, and you'd get FFVII.

this is obviously a no-brainer. FFVII is the better game. FFIX was my least favorite FF until XII.

final fantasy 7 introduced JRPG's to me, before that game JRPG's were niche in Europe, so i didn't notice them until FF7, the game was great, and it will always have special place for me as the game that introduced JRPG's to me, but i just plain love FF9 more than FF7.

I never really liked cloud, i thought sephie was cool though, FF9 was just more laid back and it was not too serious, the battle system of both games were equally good, no complaints there, story wise, both games had good stories, maybe FF7 had slightly better story, i think FF9 had better characters, each character was unique in battle, unlike in FF7 were you could make all your characters the same with materia.

Overall i just loved the medieval look of Final fantasy 9, and the art direction was awesome, the game still looks amazing, can't say that about FF7.

Edit: i just forgot about the music of these games, FF9 has the best sound track in all of Final fantasy games, the music really captures you the moment you start the game and you hear the main title screen music, it wont let you go until you beat the game, it still wont let you go after you beat the game as the tunes will stay in your head for months or even years.

VII gives IX a black eye everywhere aside from graphics and music.

Final Fantasy IX is the better game in my opinion.

FFVII is trash compared to FFVI.

Pretty much anyone who was a Final Fantasy fan before FFVII knows this.

As for PS1 games I enjoyed FFVIII most of all, with FFIX next and FFVII following that.

Of those two, IX was my favorite, second only to VI as my favorite Final Fantasy of all time. I just couldn't get into VII, I don't know what it was, it just grated me the wrong way.
