Game Rankings has Final Fantasy IX rated as the best PS1 rpg; however, going by the most hyped game in the series and the one that has had the most side projects made for it, one would think that FFVII is the best of the PS1 era Final Fantasies.  So which game do you think is better FFVII or IX?

     Also, would you recommend that one should play Crisis Core before playing FFVII?

both are in my top 3 favorite FF's. not sure about playing crisis core prior to 7. i would say 7 is better though.

thats weird, FFIX was one of the least played ones, but I personally like it the best in the series.

Final Fantasy VII of course!!!! It is the most loved and most sold with 10million sales.
Its better in every way.
-Better Story
-Better Characters
-Better Leveling System, Materia
-Better Villain
-Better Hero
-Better Longevity, Regardless of IX spanning 4 discs.
-Better Sidequests
Just.....BETTER!

FFIX is still good, it just pales in comparison to what is seen as the BEST RPG OF ALL TIME, let alone BEST FF OF ALL TIME!

I vastly prefer IX. It does a great job of paying homage to the past Final Fantasies without feeling like a retread. It's also probably the one that's closest in feel to VI (my favorite FF), owing to its humor and superb ensemble cast. Zidane and Vivi are two of my all time favorite characters. Zidane in particular is so wonderfully upbeat. He beats the shit out of all the usual sulky protagonists any day.

Oh, and Yes I would recommend FF VII Crisis Core.

Whether you should play it before or after you play FF VII I cannot say. It might be a little better if you play VII first then Crisis Core even though CC is a prequal. I think you should formulate the questions with FF VII about Zack before you find out the answers in CC.

final fantasy 7, without a doubt is currently the best rpg ever.

ff9 is better its a nice game and enjoyable, not like ff7 all the sephitoh shit going and coming really bores me.

FF9 is better to tell the truth.

FF7 is more popular and well-known though because it was like the first game to use cinematics the way it did and has helped pave the way for console gaming.

edit: for future reference, FF7 is my favorite RPG

what are you talking about, there is no way ff9 is better, the story is good but not amazing.
