Forums - Sony - Let's Talk: What do you think would be a smart move for sony?

a 10gb PS3 would just be horrible, with mandatory game installs thats like 3 or 4 games (in some instances 2) they simply need to market their products in a decent way

They should include B/C with the higher end model and remove anything non-essential from the lower end model such as wifi capabilities. Then they could produce commercials that focus on the free online, reliable hardware and great exclusive games (would be good if the commercials were not confusing and strange). Then a $50 price cut for the launch of Killzone 2 and another for Gran Turismo 5 would make a big difference (would cut the price immediately in Japan instead of waiting for Killzone 2). I think that this would help to set things straight but I doubt that they have the resources for the price-cuts.

Keep doing exactly what there doing, and just wait out the recession and until they start making profit on the PS3 (which should be in 2009). Don't do a price cut, but wait till both the Cell and the RSX chips goes to 45 nm and then come out with a slim PS3 with B/C and a small harddrive for $299.99, sales will explode.

I think Sony should just stick the course and continue to do cost-cutting measures like they always have been doing.
There's really no reason to start taking out more USB ports and Wi-Fi and stuff.
Within time, they'll be able to have a cheaper PS3 to produce, and that could also possibly entail a pricecut.
Plus, Sony has been much faster in terms of cutting costs than Microsoft.

360 IS OPERATIONAL AFTER 37 DAYS!

The smart move for Sony is to ride the storm and focus on Blu-ray. They won that war, hopefully they can recoup the PS3 blunders over the long run.

As for the PS3, throw money around. Sony may be suffering a bit, but they're not broke. This is a long haul fight and they should look at MS's strategy on how to fight a long battle with money. They have the internal studios to keep themselves relevant... One could argue that they have at least five of the top ten internal studios in all of gaming.

They're going to lose their ass on the PS3, that much is certain. The question remains whether Sony is acknowledging that and is going to try to make that money back on the PS4 in 2011 or 2012 or not. They were an obnoxiously proud company, but much of that element is gone. Hopefully, they've adopted more of Microsoft's strategy of "money beats pride" and changes to suit the new market.

Take, for example, Netflix on the 360. Suddenly, many Sony-owned films were taken off the shelf because MS was profiting from them. That's not a smart move. Go for the money. Columbia would still make money from 360 movies. Keep your entities separate and swallow your pride. You don't see MS threatening to remove codecs from Blu-ray discs played on the PS3. They're whores. They just want money.

Operate like that and Sony will be just fine.

Raise the PS3 price so they break even on every unit sold, overall sales shouldn't decrease much. Sony should then focus on liquidating most of its game studios and unprofitable parts of the company while spending even more money forcing Blu-Ray down consumers throats. Doing this would help reduce losses while providing a plan for long-term growth.

They need software BC immediately. I don't care if its complicated, it can certainly be done, the PS2 was not that powerful. This would keep the hardware cheap and still open up a vast library of games.

A gimped PS3 lie a ____?

God, that's the worst idea ever. Sony needs to streamline their divisions (ever read about how operations happened circa 2006? it's ugly) and adapt to the market by playing to their strengths, not sell off or break up their selling tools.

Blu-ray has won. The Playstation brand has suffered terribly for it, but that's a revenue stream Sony will need to tap in the future.

IMO, Sony has become GM in 1970. They're bulky, they're awkward, they're slow to move without at least five divisions signing off on anything. They could learn a lot from the tech companies in America like Apple, IBM, or even Microsoft. Without drastic changes to their SoP, they'll continue to flounder.

Like my father told me since I was a child, a horse designed by a committee will always turn out a camel.

It's time for SCE to get back to their roots and run the division as they see fit. No Cell, no Blu-ray, they should use whatever tools are best suited for their device. Sony high command should not dictate to the divisions.

A lower end console with like 20gb and no built in wifi that could sell for $350 or $299.

Wifi isn't that important, i have wifi but choose to use a wired connection.
