Forums - Gaming - Unbelievable.... I just have to comment

My biggest complaint with optical games is load times. Its painful So painful. I remember the days of the PS1 and PS2. I hated the load times so much. The PSP is absolutely horrible. If they can reduce the load times by waiting 5 - 10 minutes to install. I am happy.

In any case MrStick is correct here, this has been a presistent problem, and one created by an unwillingness to use standard equipment. Proprietary memory is just annoying.

It's Sony's way to use their stuff. Others a guilty at it too if they have the capability to do so.

I have an 80 Gig PS3. Have MGS4 installed *4.4* R2 (300 mb) LBP (200 mb) TFU (three gigs?) Fifteen demos, 3 PS1 games, 2 episodes of Qore Home *3 GB* and still have 41 gigabytes of memory left.

I own 5 games.

Really, unless you play ten or twenty games concurrently, it's no problem at all.

And yes you are trolling, installs have been here since January and just now you decide it's a huge deal.

Stop failing.

dude... look at your own sig, what is it you say in there about people on this site... bashing other folks because they're console of choice just got ragged on......

and yet....

even after spouting that crap, you turn around and accuse me of trolling, tell me to stop failing..... you know, give me a friggin break, why don't you try taking your own advice and not immediately drag someone down because they said something you disagree with. that kind of juvenile hypocrisy drives me nuts. don't come in here raggin on others if you're going to do the same thing they do.

It's not trolling if it's a legitimate complaint. Wake up man.

Stop trying to use laptop drives and flash memory (exclusively flash anyways) in consoles and just use the full size 3.5" drives that sport 500GB for $75...or at the very least they should make the consoles so that you can upgrade them to 3.5" drives (from 2.5") yourself if/when needed.

/end

but 2.5' are default in ALL laptops. thats not propietary.

hell 360 drives are propietary.

about games you choose nothing u can always keep the save. and most of the install are not even 3 minutes.

r2, lbp, VC.

DMC4 it's hardly a average.

Isn't it crazy? Like when you spend like 5 hours to upload all 5-10 disks of Final Fantasy 13 for Xbox 360 and then you have to buy a secondary proprietary HD from Microsoft for $150 bucks! Gawd!

wow....so how have you enjoyed any console heck and pc?

every system has had its memory card/hdd limitations. mandatory installs...no prob i gots a shit ton of hdd space. need more? oh snap son i can get a bigger hdd for cheap, what 500gb for buck 50?

the wii gots its 512mb plus the cards

360 gots 20,60,120gb

ps3 gots 20,40,60,80,160, and whatever else you can find

so if you look at it the ps3 is the better of the 3 companies this gen with its near endless memory upgrade situation. mandatory installs take a gig or two, nothing to fancy.

X360 HDDs aren't proprietary. They are 2.5"s, but use propritary scripting to ensure that outside HDDs aren't used. You can actually mod a 20GB HDD with any 2.5" HDD if you have the right tools (basically flashing the OS & associated files on any 120GB HDD and put it in the plastic case).

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Actually this is where Microsoft has done well.

I can switch a HDD on an Xbox 360 in less time than it takes to boot up the average game. They give you a transfer cable if you buy the 120GB model, whereas a transition from a 40gb to 250gb HDD say on the PS3 sounds like a complete PITA in comparison.

I can also migrate my profile onto a memory card in the same time or less. It made going from one console to another a complete breeze. With my PS3 when I sent it in for repair I had to buy a precision screwdriver set to yank the HDD.

And thus the pros and cons of proprietary vs. everything being the same comes in.

The proprietary bit was in reference to memory cards from generations past, not the 2.5" disk drives now.  The problem with the disk drives is that they have less capacity and are more expensive.
