Forums - Sales - According to the JP Preview, WKC may be the best selling HD JRPG in Japan!

It'll be interesting to see how much more Star Ocean 4 sells than this game.

It'd be hilarious if WKC outsold SO4 (JP Onry).

It'd make some... interesting conversations.  The game comes out in seven weeks, the 360 install base will be at or around 930k.  I won't predict sales based on install base, but I'd say that WKC has a mild-moderate chance of outselling SO4 in Japan.

Why is this a surprise?

The number of PS3s in Japan easily tops the number of 360s. Of course it would be the largest HD JRPG in Japan ever released... its like.. the PS3's first JRPG. (I don't count Folklore and VC as traditional JRPGs)

Why haven't Wii JRPGS sold tons then

Because the Wii owners, unlike the PS3 owners don't care less for JRPGs. Mario games only for them.

So your saying that Im playing a mario game when I'm playing NMH and Okami?

It means you're in a minority compared to the rest of the Wii owners.

Really? Since any game that has mario on the wii all together is about 39.3 Million while there are about 236 Million games allready sold on the wii. So that means there are about 196.7 games that don't have mario in them. So wouldn't that mean they are buying games that does not have mario in them?

Former something....

good to see the nice sales, and i really hope Square learns a lesson from this.

"The 360 can't sell JRPGs, but we still act like it's some kind of an accomplishment when a JRPG on the PS3 outsells them."

I never saw anyone say that... you guys are just grasping at straws now trying to find anyway possible to spin this negativly.

I never saw anyone say that the PS3 can't sell RPGs, or that if WKC doesn't sell it's because it's on the PS3. I have seen people say the 360 can't sell JRPGs, though, and if you read the OP (or the title), then you should be aware that the entire premise of this thread is that it's some kind of amazing thing that WKC is the best selling HD JRPG in Japan.

I'm not trying to spin it negatively, either. Why on earth should I? The game sold pretty well. Unlike a lot of people here, I don't take offense when this happens. My point was that you're vanquishing strawmen.

I think you have been banned to many times to have seen this. Some 360 owners were predicting sales beow Blue Dragon saying the 360 is the RPG console this generation and where all RPGs will sell the most.

Haven't you noticed why DMJ had to include the "HD" JRPG as a conditional?

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors Square Enix 0.50m
Pokemon Batoru Reboryūshon Nintendo 0.31m
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World Namco Bandai 0.22m

WKC has yet to top any of these. It will overtake the Tales spinoff next week, but lifetime against Pokemon should be close. It doesn't have a chance at the Dragon Quest spinoff.

Big name JRPG's on the Wii will sell, period. Have we already forgotten the announcement that DQX is arriving on the Wii? edit: Forgot to mention MH3. Only Mario on the Wii, right?

OT: Sales are a little better than I expected, not bad. Still, the PS3 hasn't quite yet proven it can sell JRPG's better than the 360 worldwide, which was the argument (I thought) some of the "Xbots" claimed, one I agree with. As for people calling Square-Enix idiots for putting their games on the 360, I'm not sure what to think... if you're implying WKC showed the PS3 is a more viable JRPG platform, I suggest looking at the Wii's DQ spinoff, which opened at 310k first week over a year ago.

Uh... I've never been banned?

I remember people arguing over whether or not the PS3 could sell JRPGs like hotcakes.

I remember starcraft splitting hairs and saying (probably just to be annoying) the PS3 hadn't yet proved its ability to sell JRPGs. Which was true, on a technicality, at the time.

I've never, ever seen anybody argue that - for some unfathomable reason -  the PS3 would be unable to sell RPGs or JRPGs, full stop.

Ok so your saying that WKC wont be able to overtake the DQ spin off or any other Xbox game when it goes world wide which it seems more plausible given the fact the game outsold almost every JRPG's release in its stronghold on the Xbox in its first week and your saying it wont overtake any of those LTD sales?

Lets ignore the fact that Dragon Quest Swords has failed to pass a Million and its gone worldwide already or lets forget the fact that all the JRPG's on the 360 were released worldwide and lets look at the Japanese numbers. With The Last Remnant only selling 140,000 so far in Japan WKC has surpassed that. Blue Dragon which has been out since 06 has only 210,000 copies sold in Japan. Lost Odyssey which is the most successful JRPG(WorldWide) on the 360 sold a pitiful 100,000 LTD in Japan. And Finally the Best JRPG on the X360 Tales of Vesperia has only sold 160,000 copies in Japan so far and thats an Established title.

Most Wii RPGs have failed to go the 1m mark while it seems that WKC is on its way

So GTFO

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Anyone who thinks WKC will sell a million is delusional.

No, it isn't.  WKC already got a fifth of the way there in one week.  1 million in Japan alone is a pipe dream but 1 million worldwide? not so much
