Possible. But I must agree on the Insane thing....

Though I think with leveling off throughout 2009 with the $200 pricetag compared to the short time this year in the holiday season will make sales about even. Could increase more in 2009, but I'd need to know more about what they'll do strategically in 2009. So my guesses is 10-14 million in 2009. IN other words around the same with a tolerance of 2 million. |
What indicates that this is the peak holiday season? The console market has expanded on all fronts and all they need is a price cut near the end of next year to sustain or increase the current level of performance from this year.
Tease.
where's leoj? I want to hear him say the ps3 will make the biggest come back with the 100 dollar price cut.
It's quite possible especially if MS cuts the price again by next holiday. Further cut = more people buying in a crappy economy. Will Sony cut the price in March? I sure hope so.
It's just that simple.
16 million seems a bit high but not out of reach will a $50 price drop and another round of aggressive bundling next year. Personally I think we'll see 10 million 360s sold next year, the global economy will be in recession until 2010 which should hurt weekly sales starting in Feb. (vs. last year) and result in a very sluggish Christmas season.

1,839,422 or 141,000 per week would be pretty hard not to beat. In comparison the PS3 sold 2,582,446 consoles or 200k per week. In Others the Xbox 360 sold 881,274 consoles or 67k per week In Others the PS3 sold 1,370,757 consoles or 105k per week. But you see the Xbox 360 is selling almost double what it sold last year in Others, so these numbers should be significantly higher.
Tease.

Nah price has a smaller effect on the sales then games. I give it a small chance that it will do 16 million next year with only the games that are announced now. |
Your both sort of right and sort of wrong. Squilliam is right in that every system has games and konnichiwa is right that the system selling is about games. But Suilliam is wrong in price being a factor, and konnichiwa is wrong in future games being a factor.
Sure the promise of games and assumption of games coming to a system is what draws in the core gamers right away. You know knowing that when you buy the system you are guaranteed these games. Nintendo (mario, zelda, ect.) Sony (GT, GoW, ect) Microsoft (Halo). And then the assumption of PS2 had GTA, FF, and others so PS3 will have them and exlusive as well. These rules only apply to early buyers of the core well informed gamers.
When it comes to the rest of the 100 million PS2 owners the casual gamer they buy based on word of mouth (whats popular) and when going into store what games they see that look fun. So it does not matter at all what game are coming out in 09'. These games are not on shelves and thus affect the buyer in no way shape or form.

The difference is that now there really aren't any distinguishing games going forward which will have any apreciable impact of sales as far as I can see which will come from the Microsoft or Sony camp. The console launch was a different story and you're talking about completely different market segments making their purchases.
Tease.
I agree. It's all about price. Both PS3 and X360 game libraries are so stuffed already that from now on the sales are solely determined by pricing.
Killzone this, Alan Wake that, God ov War OMG is of course very interesting discussion and bragging material for fanboys and hardcore gamers, but practically a non factor for analysts perdicting sales and the winner of this gen.
(HD consoles)
