Forums - Nintendo - We Cheer, the Wii Xmas game!!! (...at my house)

Seems like I'm one of the first few VGcharters to own this game, so here is a little insight on how well this game performed on Christmas day over here.

This household has been following the game's development ever since Namco Bandai announced it. My sister fell in love with it at first sight,  after reading a few positive impressions on the game I didn't mind checking it out and having a chance to play some new gameplay. After reading some reviews and checking the varied music selection, we decided to take the plunge and import it for Christmas.

Here comes the 25th and We Cheer has to compete for our limited time with three other Wii games, those are Okami, Trauma Center: New Blood and Wii Music. Okami's a pretty game but it started rather slow, so it lost its time to shine. Trauma Center had its coop feature blown out and is great but the operations seemed very similar to the previous game (lets see how that develops). And Wii Music was great to fiddle with, have to put more time in it so at least some tunes comes out right.

We Cheer's first hour was a little daunting, the steep learning curve controls aren't a breeze and I could see my sister getting frustrated (same thing many reviews point out). After creating her cheerleader she jumped straight into championship and failed song after song, even one star song's like Hoku's "Perfect Day" were out of reach (and it's still out of her reach, although she has completed harder songs).

Later that afternoon we tried the Cheer Off mode to practice while competing with each other. It's one of the few games were she is able to beat me, solely because I'm a dancing clutz. Still while playing this mode the controls and rythem started to click and in no time started beating songs in the Championship. It was here when it's addictive gameplay started taking over. And dominated the rest of the day!

The game ovbiously isn't aimed at the "hardcore" crowd who would die before touching a game like this. But for it's target audience (and others who don't mind to experiment) its not a bad game, if you can look past the candy covered theme the game is a blast.

Nice review. So give a bit first before giving up on it?

I think you really need to be harcore if you wanna be good at that game

hmm this may be something for me, I might even learn to dance..

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Yeah that's it, not like the 1UP reviewer who didn't give it a chance. The Championship isn't pick up and play. The Cheer off is good way to start getting the hand of it (since you don't fail) and there is even a Work Out to burn those calories off.

@Naum: Your right in both statements. Lol, I also see myself getting more into the dancing rhythm.

It looks like a more active version of Elite Beat Agents, which doesn't seem so bad. There should be a Wii version of EBA, by the way.

BLASPHEMY!

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

*2 months later*

About Okami, the beginning was slow, too much text. I know I could have skipped it, but I wanted to know the story.

Since the game's been released already here in PAL land, here's a BUMP this thread and adding some youtube experiences.

Some funny ones in there.

PS: No one else got this game? It's a good one, don't be afraid of the PINK guys

That's not the point. You've committed a hardcore sin. You cannot have more fun with a casual game than with a proper game, even if the latter has a slow start. If your family is not immediately enthralled, it's their fault.

I hope you know that's sarcasm. This game looks kind of like a motion controlled Elite Beat Agents.

I really wanna pick this game up but the fact that it requires two Wii Remotes is a real deal-breaker for me :/

I don't know, those Bratz style cheerleaders really annoy me. I would rather import Happy Dance Collection.

Wow, this looks cool. I thought it was shovelware. I think I have to change my march most wanted post...
