And really, that's quite sad, when you think about it. Playing video games doesn't accomplish much of anything that's meaningful, unless you count occasionally improving hand-eye coordination. You can come up with all the sob stories you want about how some kid somewhere had his blindness cured by playing video games, or how somebody who was injured badly regained full use of their arms that way, but those people are the exception to the rule. What kind of badge of pride is it to be able to say "I am a gamer"? What prestige can you possibly believe the title of "gamer" really carries? If anything, "gamer" painted you in a black light in the eyes of most people until just very recently, and that's only changing at all because of the Wii and DS. So I say this to those who want to believe that being a "gamer" is somehow sacred, that the Wii and DS are "destroying gaming": let it go. Just let it go. They're games. They always have been, and they always will be, diversions and nothing else. You can gussy them up all you want and call them art, but it won't actually change anything. Painting a pig brown and calling it a stallion does not make it a stallion. It's still a pig, and that's all it ever will be, and there's nothing wrong with that as long as you accept it. Games will always be games, even if you want people to call them art, and there's nothing wrong with that, either. |

Traditionally games were played with a joystick and one big button, maybe 2 if you were lucky. These newfangled controllers with 10-20 buttons are just there for casuals, who might as well be playing a piano.
Pac-Man and Donkey Kong each had a joystick and one button. Duck Hunt had no joysticks and one button. Wii Sports Tennis and Boxing have no joysticks and no buttons. I think these are the most traditional controls there are.

You know, I have nothing against nintendo or their strategy (they did what they had to do to make money) as much as I won't even consider a wii purchase with my own money but this is the kind of comment that pisses me off.
You read off like the kind of person who walks around generalising people as the "snobcore" for refusing to accept "casual gaming" yet in the same vein, you have the audacity to generalise people as 'playing games in their mom's basement for 15 years" because they don't favor the wii.
So basically someone like Kowenicki, who, from what I deduct from his post and sig, loves gears (x360), has a daughter (and own family most likely), has been holed up in his mom's basement for 15 years.
Insulting games, companies and what not for not being the way one likes is one thing. Posting gross insulting over-generalizations about other people's way of life is a whole 'nother dimension of a mix of arrogance and plain stupidity.

Heh. I'm definitely not Malstrom. One, I would not use my website to rant about my political views and then refuse to acknowledge that "Blue Ocean Strategy" can apply to politics as easily as it can to business; that's just short-sightedness. And two, he actually updates his site more often and more verbosely than I do my own, if you can believe that. Oh, and three, I'm not a Republican, which he's been quite keen on illustrating that he is.

No you're right, and I'm sorry. I just got "in the zone" there, just riffin', ya know, joshin' him, and getting carried away? I would never report you for pointing out my arrogant inconsistency.
I generalized the snobcore because they generalize Nintendo fans as either rabid fanboys, babies, grandparents, or soccer moms. I use this vague "they" to refer to them, but I wasn't talking about you or kowenicki in particular. I'm not trying to attack individuals here. I was over-exaggerating to make my point about the loudest whiners, but in the case of many reviewers, I'm not exaggerating at all. For example, the 18 year old reviewer that doesn't read and can't spell takos or spaguetti. Grampy found that guy's bio earlier and it was hilarious.
I think there should be games like Gears and there should be fans of those games. I am attacking the concept that those should be the only games and that other games are somehow stupid, or somehow casual shovelware, or somehow a threat. I support all genres. I hate the review system and the people who get paid to support it. It's really holding us all back.
I hope this post better explained what I wanted to say while decreasing the arrogance.

If anything, the controller is not complicated enough O.o
Too many button functions are being preformed by waggles that don't work well most of the time (especially in 3rd party games)
