Forums - Sony - Loud PS2

So I just bought a used PS2 today for $50 bucks at gamestop and I just turned it on and I realized something. It's almost asloud as my 360. I never owned a PS2 prior to today and I was wondering if all PS2's were loud or if something was wrong with mine.

Thats what you get for buying a used console

Is this a trick question? The 360 makes almost NO noise when you're playing a game off your HD...

You shouldn't had bought it used and thanks for warning me because my friend is about to get a used PS2 from Gamestop this week. I have to warn him.

Was it the older PS2 or the Slim?

If its the older PS2, sometimes during start up the exhaust fan speeds up and then slows down in the middle of gaming sessions it speeds up to accommodate the CPU temp.

Other than that you said its louder than the 360. The 360 fans don't run that loud its the 360 DVD drive that spins at 12X.

Then I guess there's someting wrong with my 360 to becaue it makes a loud noise when there is no disk inside.

And yeah, it's an old PS2. Bleh. >> I'll go trade it in and if it's still loud, I'll live with it.

-Model? I have a 39004 and a 70012... I think.
-Playing what disc? the old ones can get loud with blue discs... don't know about the new ones.

What type of loud noise, let a jet plane taking off? or what? If it sounds like buzzing annoying sound then thats normal its the fans spinning.

Yea there is no need to trade in bro, all you need to do is exchange it for another one if you have bought that PS2 within 7 days.

Either live with it or buy a new PS2. You should of bought a used PS2 Slim, my friend said they were selling both old models and the slim models. Go back and check that offer out.

My friend by the way works at Gamestop.

The old ps2s were quite loud, but the new slim ones were silent, so....

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD
