Forums - Sony - Why would Killzone 2 outsell Resistance 2 (or Resistance 1)?

i stoped reading at savior

aww I thought Leo-J was back, then I realized this thread is from 2008 :(

OT: We'll just have to see in 10 more days :)

id say because resistance 2 is only a minor improvement to the bland prequel that felt like any other console fps whereas kz2 is a huge improvement to the first game

and .as far as the demo goes doesent feel like "hey this feels like any other fps "

... maybe it would be different though if killzone 1 had been released recently . that way people would remember how the game was hyped and how it failed expectations but they do remember the same thing about resistance

Must you flame on the game just because it doesn't coincide with what YOU deem fit as a great shooter?

Someone is too busy hating, i guess, every single tread, he cries about it, anyway, it should outsell it, Res 2 didn't do too great, so it should be easy.

*Sigh*

As an owner of every console this generation, I feel pity for any of my fellow console owners that act this way. And in this thread, I feel pity for many of the 360 fans. To see them hate on Killzone 2 like this is embarrassing. If Killzone 2 was a game on the 360, I doubt we'd see many of the 360 fans here hating it as much as they do. This is undeniable. So at the end of the day, it's just a bunch of angry, jealous fanboys. How droll.

The type of people in this thread that hate the game seem to fall under two categories. One category consists of 360 fans, who just can't stand that people on another console are getting a good game. Another category consists of a minority of PS3 owners, who are so used to disappointment that their pessimism causes them to make ridiculously low predictions. From my observations, they may even be making these low predictions so that they can later convince themselves that the game is a success, when their expectations were greatly surpassed.

I'm not very impressed by some of the trolling in this thread. Let me say this. Killzone 2 has incredible graphics and environments. The gameplay is controlled, and in some small way, refreshing. Perhaps in the opinions of a fanboy who hasn't even touched the demo of Killzone 2, it doesn't match up to Gears of War 2 or Halo 3. Well, that's fine. Killzone 2 differs greatly from those two titles. To me, Gears 2 has embarrassing, shitty online that makes a constant effort to ruin the fun of anyone playing it. Halo 3 has great online, but a fairly pathetic campaign. None of these games are perfect, and at the end of the day, their main difference to most fanboys is a couple of percentage points on review aggregating sites.

Killzone 2 will be a title worth playing by any shooter fan. When it comes to sales, anyone who thinks that this will sell less than Resistance 2 is going to flat-out wrong. Many people don't seem to realize that Resistance: Fall of Man didn't earn the majority of its sales in the first couple weeks or months. It sold a decent amount every week and was mildly bundled at different times. Even then, its numbers don't put it at blockbuster status. The original Resistance was so popular because it was probably the only popular multiplayer shooter until Call of Duty 4 came out. Once CoD4 gained the popularity it did, no other shooter on the PS3 could compete. Gears of War 2 did fine on the 360 because it was a different type of game (third person shooter) with a different fanbase. Left 4 Dead and Gears of War 2 pretty much killed any chances of PS360 owners picking up Resistance 2, and it seems that the majority of PS3 owners preferred Call of Duty 5.

Where Killzone 2 differs is that it won't have that sort of competition. It may face competition during the 2009 holiday season, but by then it will have a userbase of over 25 million, with far more leverage for games to sell. Unlike Resistance, Killzone 2 will have an opportunity to make a name for itself and sell well throughout the year. If you care to look at the highest selling games for any of the three home consoles this generation, you'll notice that NONE of the games (excluding bundled games) were launched during quarter 4 (which is usually viewed as the holiday period).

Look, I'm not saying that Killzone 2 will sell huge amounts, nor destroy any other games or consoles. But its potential to sell and be a high quality game shouldn't be downplayed like this. And shame on any of you who did just that.

Ill tell you what will make both Killzone 2 and PS3 major movers in feb.....a price drop to 299 or 249. I can easily see Killzone selling 1M launch day if Sony did that

Hey, why don't they sell KZ2 for $25 while they're at it! 1m sales, here we come!

Hear, hear!

And there is also a tiny minority (0.01%) of people who genuinely dislike the game, but they get lumped in with the other 99.99%, because there are like three of them.

Killzone 2 will sell more due the great new co-op gameplay and amazingly responsive controls.

And the general public will be amazed at the hundreds of different light sources illuminating the game in an almost suburbian type glow.

Tease.
