Meh, some people are already trying to make a big deal out of nothing. 132.000 is a decent result but it is nothing to brag about. And has anybody ever said that PS3 cant sell jRPGs in Japan? Link please because I dont remember a single person here saying something as stupid as this.

I can only remember people saying PS3 is not capable of selling jRPGs worldwide. I am one of those people and i still do think that way.

Yeah, I agree with this. Unless this game does amazingly well outside of Japan (it won't), I'm sticking to the 360 being an equal or better JRPG seller in the west, with both HD consoles about even worldwide.

OT: Sales are decent, about as I expected. Should end up around 300k lifetime.

in japan only which over 50% sales come from, for jrpg thats not even

Lost Odyssey sold nearly 750k in the west alone. Many of the 360's JRPG's have been doing moderately well, even with its low Japan sales.

@Riachu: Of course I'm not 100% sure it won't do as well as people think, just a prediction. I don't see the game being a million seller - I imagine sales being close to Blue Dragon.

well thats isn't the average. lost odyssey its really the exception, but for most of the jrpg the sales come 50% of the japanese market.

the thing is xbox fanboys were saying ps3 couldn't sell jrpg, and it sold better even if it have more install based.. JRPG would sell better on the ps3 than on the 360.

enchanted arms sold better on the ps3, now WKC will be close outselling all jrpg in japan life time in a single week. be highest selling jrpg in japan on HD system.

@mrstickball - but your statement in bold didn't state the US, anyone could taken ps3 can't sell JRPG at all, and valkyria it's a niche title, and a strategic rpg with cell shaded textures that americans hate.

132,000 firstday translates into:

180,000 copies first week (not huge sales for WKS if you compare to ToV 105K and TLR 105K on a 1/3 Japanese X360 installed base compared to PS3)

and

nearly 300,000 copies lifetime in Japan for WKC.

Based on these numbers I'd say worldwide lifetime close to 700,000 copies.

.....

 *face palm*

Im geussing the xfriends are having a hard time to find something negative to say about the sales numbers so they had to 'translate' it into something disappointing.

LOL.

And its wrong. 110K translates into 180K as Gundam 2 shows us. 132K translates into over 200K first week.

lol @ rukusa.

I translated the numbers into something very realistic.

Based on these numbers I'd say worldwide lifetime 700,000 copies.

Again, Install base =/= Sales.

Just because something has triple the install base, doesn't mean it needs to sell triple the units.  I'll posted this in another thread:

If it's all isntall base, then how can CoD: WaW PS3 or CoD: WaW 360 > CoD: WaW Wii?

How is DMC4 PS3 > DMC4 360?

How is Burnout Paradise PS3 not too far behiind BP 360?  Should be much lower considering install bases.

And PES and Fifa PS3 > 360.

The argument is fundamentally flawed, and when brough into any argument shows true desperation from the poster that is unable to concede that they were incorrect.

I'm very well aware of that installed bsae =/= sales. Far from it.

But the 3 times bigger base of PS3's versus X360's in Japan should add a few sales, perhaps 35-50% . I agree it's hard to estimate.

Where did you pull that number out of?  How do you know that?

Out of my ass. The method is part of my prediction models.

At least u must agree that a bigger installed base must account for something?

@Stickball
Could you just stop? Really.....please? Just admit you have no idea on the budget of the game and therefore cannot even begin to guess how many sales it needs to see a profit. The fact that you try and downplay a JRPG's sales success just leads me to believe you aren't really a JRPG fan.

Here's an example: I personally thought that ToS2 was very average and not worth the praise it gets on these forums, but I do not go around lamenting its sales, on the contrary I am just happy that a JRPG is doing well, regardless of what system or what title. So stop trying to make WKC out to be a failure and just be happy that JRPG's are still alive and well.

This games has online game.
Which means it could turn like Monster Hunter,so you can't say lifetime sales just after first day sales.

Take my love, take my land..

 But they're not. It's a struggling genre.

There are very few JRPGs that can match the mammoths of WRPG sales, such as Fable II, Oblivion and Fallout 3 who are able to sell 3-5 million copies.

You just picked the three best selling WRPGs and said there are very few JRPGs that can match them. I don't really see how that's unexpected. Why would I expect every JRPG to sell on the level of the most hyped WRPGs?

How am I downplaying it's success? WKC may be Level 5's worst-selling Playstation RPG in quite a few years, so I'm trying to guess what 'sucuess' is. If you have a better opinion, please provide it.

I'm not arguing if it's a failure or not. But going by past Level 5 games, we can make certain statements regarding sellthrough.

And way to go attacking my JRPG sensibilities. Judging from your catalogue, you haven't been a fan of the genre for half the time I have. I love the JRPG genre, and I stated earlier in my post that I thought 132k was a pretty good number for it's first day. I'm not trying to downplay 132k - Merely asking where that number stands in the grand scheme of things for a game debuting on the largest-selling week of the year in Japan.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

WKC did great compared to the other HD RPG titles that came out this year in Japan.

Phantasy Star is a bit of a disappointment though. Expected higher.

It sold better, but not by much. I think people were expecting it to sell twice that amount in it's first week. Let's see if it stay above 100K next week. or drops below 50K.

Tales of Vesperia sold 106K

Last Remnant sold 105K

Valkyria Chronicles only sold 78K

Disgaea 3 sold only 20K in the U.S.

Both Tales of Vesperia and Last Remnant sold on a system that have less then 1/2 the number of console sales than the PS3 has in Japan. So their sales are actually more impressive.
