@ Torillian

We need to have a good JRPG discussion.

I am also picking up Valkyria Chronicles in an hour or so.

Seems great minds think alike.

Always love having a discussion on JRPGs, and I hope you enjoy VC as much as I did.  Fulfilled almost all of my hopes for the game, the only thing I wished it had done better was to delve a little deaper into the war storyline and make it more like playing a WWII movie, I think that could make a great JRPG.

I forget, have you gotten Persona 4 yet?  It's another title that really hit the sweet spot for and hit all of my hopes in what it would be.

I have not picked up P4 yet, I was deciding between that and VC and since VC is already vanishing from my local stores due to not selling well enough I thought it would be smarter to grab that first. I will at some point get both, but for now I have to go with VC.

We should seriously have a RPG conversation though, would be fun times.

I'll send you a message on PSN with my impressions of VC. By the way, The Last Remnant is actually pretty damn cool, I like the battle style (of course, Team SaGa = Greatest Devs ever). If and when it comes to PS3 you shold give it a rent.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

ah dur....I remember that thread now about which you were going to pick up. I plan to buy TLR when it comes on PS3, since I buy every JRPG anyway. I'll be interested to see if it loves up to the praise I've heard from some, but I'll definitely give it a shot. I mean hell, I bought Eternal Sonata and I didn't even particularly like the demo for that one (and I still don't get how IGN can call it an 8.7 or whatever they give it).

If you want me to actually respond it's best to send me messages on VGC instead of PSN. I can never get the energy up to write out a decent message without a keyboard, and am too lazy to switch my keyboard from the PC to the PS3 for a discussion.

Europe is part of the West???? This is news to me....

Parts of Europe are. Spain, UK and Russia are all in the Western hemisphere.

The bigger argument is that European gamers share their taste with the Americans far more than the Japanese, which is usually (at least as far as I've seen) part of the whole 'East vs. West' gaming argument.

Well, if we take the Greenwich meridian as the reference, the Western hemisphere covers Iceland, Ireland, Portugal, most of Spain, most of the UK and part of France...  The rest of Europe is on the Eastern Hemisphere... But people consider all Europe as part of the West because of the civilization similarities, while most of Asia as the East (Middle East, Far East, etc.)...

This reminds me of a XKCD comic:

You'll certainly enjoy The Last Remnant if you enjoy a more tactical & involved affair. Between the QTE critical triggers, and the massive union battles, it's a hidden gem in the 360 JRPG collection - and much better (imo) than the 360's version of Eternal Sonata.

The battle system is a mix (imo) of Ogre Battle and Chrono Trigger - Ogre Battle because your not directing 100% of the action, and Chrono Trigger because you have to be mindful of AoE attacks and various line-of-sight attacks. It's horribly flawed in some ways (technical side), but overall, it's like Dead Rising - brilliant in some areas, flawed in others.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

@ Torillian

Alright i'll send it through PM here on VGChartz.

@Mr. Stickball

Not certain if it was you, but did you write up a review on TLR? If so, can you link it to me?

Thanks.

I have not completed my review of The Last Remnant yet. I am going to provide the VGC review once I've completed the game with a second opinion from Louie. He believes the game is a C+ or B-, and I put the game around a B or B+...So we're pretty close.

I'll put up a very lengthy 5-7 page review once I'm done...Hopefully it'll hash out exactly what makes the game tick.

Japan >>>>>> NA >>> EU for FF sales

No point in downplaying it at all, FFXIII sales on PS3 in Japan alone will be higher then FFXIII sales in NA and EU combined for the 360. Be sure to quote me on that. ;)

Saying the rest of the West combined sells more FF copies then Japan alone simply shows what big a player Japan is, hate how love down play this.

Anyway for WKC it was 132k sales too many, hear nothing but awful things about the game on Japanese gaming forums.

Exactly.  Japan is ONE country.  There's no other country in the world where JRPGs is more popular than in Japan.  If people want to compare Japan's sales to the sales of the western hemisphere, that's fine, but just look at the sales in proportion to the overall population of that geographic area.  So a JRPG selling 2 million copies in a country of 150 million people is far, far more superior than 5 million copies sold in the western hemisphere where there are a couple billion people.

Edit:  These are FAMITSU numbers, and not Media Create.  Sorry about the mistake!

From NeoGAF:

First Day Sales (12/25)

[PS3] White Knight Chronicles (SCE) - 132,000 (54%)
[NDS] Phantasy Star Zero (Sega) - 63,000 (31%)
[WII] Wii de Asobu: Pikmin (Nintendo) - 25,000 (22%)
[NDS] Team Batista no Eikou: Shinjitsu o Tsumugu 4-tsu no Karte (Hudson) - 16,000 (40%)
[WII] BioHazard (Capcom) - 11,500 (21%)

[PS3] Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution (CyberFront) - 2,400 (35%)
[PS3] Far Cry 2 (Ubisoft) - 1,900 (18%)
[360] Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution (CyberFront) - 1,700 (34%)
[PS3] BioShock (Spike) - 978 (10%)

http://dubai.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/ghard/1230276831/24

White Knight sold through 54% of it's ~250k shipment on the first day.  For comparison, Rogue Galaxy sold ~150k first day out of a ~300k shipment.

So... it seems... fairly on track then for about... 200K-220?

Rogue Galaxy sold like 250 first week.

Seems a little less then some people thought.

Looks like i'm on my way to being right though vs what Max king of the wild thought.

^ Are you saying Sony paid for WKC?

Well yeah... that's pretty much how most publishing deals go.
