First I was wondering what you were talking about, it got a 10/10! Then I saw that it was 10/100!
LOL!

I bet he is the type of guy that says how pc gaming is better and he can make a PC just as good as a console for $400.
Here's why PC gaming is awful, most of the time just getting to the game is a huge timesink. Sure you can make your own Pc for $400 but the time you spent researching, finding parts, building, getting to work etc you could have earned an extra $600 and just paid for a pre-made smoother running pc. Or bought a console and spent that $600 on games, clothes whatever.
I dunno what to think about his review. On the one hand Gta4 probably works fine on the computers it was developed on. The fact he's made his own pc probably doesn't help. On the other it seems quite a lot of people are having problems. I don't think he should have put a score up at all though, after all he didn't review the game. Just left it as N/A
I'm going to take this thread as proof that my 'the words are more important than the numbers' opinion of reviews is valid.
1/10 seems surprising. But lets look at some quotes from the review
"What I’m not expecting is the game to crash with a cryptic error message, something along the lines of NMN Code 40. Checking online tells me that error means I don’t have XP SP3 installed"
"I’m willing to give it a shot and install SP3, which I do."
"Install (of SP3) complete, I do the reboot and cross my fingers. Windows comes up, and it’s back to GTA 4. The graphics setup confirms that I’m going to be running at the lowest resolution with absolutely everything turned off. Such is life. There’s a benchmarking tool and I decide to give that a go, which results in crashing the game back to my desktop. I go online (gta4.net) where several people are reporting that problem, and maybe it’s due to outdated graphics drivers. I just updated them for S:CS, but what the heck, and Nvidia does have a new set of drivers."
"New graphics drivers installed I give it another go. The benchmarking tool still crashes the game"
"Just about the time that I think I should be maybe investigating the plot train a little bit I notice a considerable drop in frame rates, slide show time. I check to see if my computer is suddenly doing something else and it’s not. I wander around a little bit to see if it improves, perhaps my problem is limited to some part of the city, and it’s not that either. Back at the forums people are discussing a serious memory leak, and I believe that’s what I’m looking at. Some people claim that a simple reboot will correct it, and while I find it irritating that I’m going to have to play the game in ½ hour chunks, I can at least give that a try. Only when I reboot the graphics are screwed up again, and uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics drivers doesn’t correct the problem. Uninstalling the graphics drivers, rebooting in safe mode, scrubbing the driver files, rebooting, and reinstalling the drivers doesn’t fix the problem either. I’ve even tried three back versions of the graphics drivers without effect. I’m at a complete loss, and that’s where I stand to this day. "
I hope you've learnt something about reducing something as complex as a game to a single number.
So the reason it's 10/100 because of technical problems?
Yup. They infact leave a note at the end saying
Note: We would like nothing better than to re-visit our review of Grand Theft Auto IV if and when these issues get sorted out. Stay tuned.
Why would this review be controversial? The man had a computer that fit the technical requirements of the game (albeit minimally). The game was virtually non functional. That is exactly the score I'd give it, too.

Id give it a 9.
I hate it because its the most overhyped game in the industry, and not by gamers, by reviewers/analyst, etc..
The game imo may be the best GTA game yet, but the formula is starting to get old. It got very boring after the first 10 minutes..there wasnt any fun in it anymore, it didnt feel as immersive as the other GTAs. I dont feel its GOTY material.

got it for Ps3, and yeah, it's horribly overrated
i agree that the graphics are great, but driving is horrible experience compared to driving of scarface for example, still an awesome game but not a 10, a 9.3 for example!
don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Thats a good explanation and I agree. Except for the immersion part, I feel it was as immersive as the other GTAs... thanks to the nice grafix.
Id prolly give it 9/10 too.
| leo-j said: lmao wtf, that is the worse review in life...how can gamerankings accept a review like that o-O |
I agree. it was completely unprofessional. We're not looking at reviews to hear about that guy's computer problems.
If anything, his rant is a perfect example of why computer gaming isn't as good as the fanboys try to tell you(which it isn't.)
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.
