Forums - Microsoft - Can these 4 exclusives hold the fort against the assault of KZ2 in Q1?

I think K2 will sell great but I don't think it will affect 360 sales in a negative way at all.

I don't expect much of a HW boost from KZ2.... some good but not amazing sales either. Well, great sales like 2.5-3M LifteTime tops but that's it.

We know Sony will be releasing there Ace in the hole in the Form of Killzone 2 in Feb of 09. That game like all the big exclusives that were released has huge Hype and protential that might help the PS3 turn the tide against the X360.

No doubt Killzone will have the quality in Graphics, gameplay, and online to be one of the best FPS ever. I am very much looking forward to it. But looking at the releases from the PS3 in Jan - April, this is the only exclusives that is coming out at that time; At least in NA and/or Europe.

X360 has 4 exclusive games that already been comfirmed to be release in Q1.

1. Ninja Blade on 1/29 Japan and 2/3 in NA.

2. Halo Wars 3/3

3. Star Ocean will be released in March as well

4. GTA4: The Lost and the Damned will be out in Feb.

Do you think these 4 exclusives can fend of the Assault of a big exclusive like Killzone 2 and not loss too much ground in sales to the PS3?

It is a very similar situation with Gears of War 2 and the 4 Sony exclusives that came out this Fall. Gears 2 completely dominated LBP, R2, Motorstorm 2, and SOCOM. Oh, but the 360 also has Fable 2 and L4D to help it out.

Well if you add DLC don't forget Fable2 and Fallout3 DLC.

This Xmas it was all about Gears of War2 / Fable2 vs Resistance2 / LBP. The Xbox360 games won this battle easily, but the most sold game on both consoles was Call of Duty World at War, a multiplat game. (expecting it will outsell Gears2 soon)

Q1 might be the same. Resident Evil has a good shot to be the best selling game in early next year.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

In some alternative universe where the PS3 doesn't cost twice as much as the 360 and PS3 exclusives outsell 360 exclusives, this thread is necessary.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Yea, Infamous, Demon soul, possibly Yakuza 3, and the little level 5 RPG called White knight Chronicles.

Those games are also releasing in Q1-Q2 08, not just killzone 2, and resident evil 5 is coming out like 2 weeks after killzone 2, big first half of the year..

Hyping PS3 games, especially ones that don't come from strong franchises usually leads to disappointment.

Same with new ip..for any console

well aside demon soul and infamous

the rest its awesome without a doubt

Microsoft is spreading the net wide during that time frame. Sony is really answering a specific question. The problem is that Microsoft already answered this particular question a long time ago. If your a hardcore shooter fan you know which console will answer that particular need.

Sony has Resistance, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, and Haze.
Microsoft has Halo 3, Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Left 4 Dead, and ODST.

Microsoft has this particular market locked. They have two titles in two renowned franchises before the end of the year, and I have little doubt that Left 4 Dead is a sleeper hit having played the game. The releases for Microsoft in this time period are more like answering three different questions or needs. They are answering Action, Strategy, and Role playing.
