The only thing that made Echoes not better than the first Prime is that it had a lot more backtracking than the original Prime. It is still one of my faves since Aether was HUGE and full of life! Play it. Don't miss out on a classic.

@super_etecoon:
Wait until December so that everyone could play it. Then we'll write them a huge thank you card! I'm sure it will be great and a thank you card will really make their day!

Metroid Prime 3 Hype Level: Corrupted

Reviews:

1UP - 9.0

IGN - 9.5

It is a hardcore game through and through. You will get your ass kicked by bosses. You will be stumped by the sometimes complex, but never overbearing, exploration.

Last night I beat the First Metroid on the VC

I have now beaten.

Metroid = 1x

Metroid 2 = 1x

Super Metroid = 3x

Metroid: Prime = 2x

Metroid: Prime 2 = 1x

Metroid: Fusion = 3x

Metroid: Zero Mission = 3x

Metroid Prime: Hunters = 1x

Metroid: Prime Pinball = way to much time into it.

The best Metroid's are 3 (super Metroid) and Prime 2

How is pinball, then?  I haven't beaten Hunters and I haven't played Pinball.  The handhelds have always been the weakest for me and this seemed like a really bad idea for a spinoff.  But you say you've played a lot of it.  Is it worth picking up?

Hello everyone.  Only 10 days left.  Well one of the greatest games of all time is coming out Monday.  It's been too long dince I've had some quality time with Super Metroid.  So I thought I'd see who is all on board with the VC retro stuff that Nintendo's been putting out.

I'd like everyone who is playing Super Metroid to post.

Then...after you have beat the game, post your time and items collected.

This isn't so much a contest as much as it is a challenge.  If you've already played the game before and you are a pro, feel free to post.  But only times from this week.  Not some record you made 5 years ago.  If it's your first time don't feel ashamed to post your "15 hrs or more" times.  I like to see these because it shows how big of a game this was for its time.

I'll edit this post to keep a running tally of who is playing and what their time and completion is.

Thanks for playing.

I don't understand this comment, and I've heard it before.  I've beaten Prime at least three times, once on Hard difficulty, with 100% items and scans collected.  I'm right now 90% finished with Echoes, and I really don't see how there's more backtracking.  Because of the added dimension of Dark Aether, the game is much bigger, and occasionally you have to traverse an area you've already been to.  But most of the time, they give you a shortcut to where you need to go, wherein you often find a new objective on the way.

I think Echoes is even better than Prime.  It has even more atmosphere and suspense, even better architecture and puzzle solving, and more interesting boss battles.  It has new items and new ways of using old items (boost/spider ball for example).  Most importantly, it has a more engaging plot, revealed as you play just like Prime, but more in depth.  It topped Prime in the only ways that it could be topped.

In response to super_etecoon: I still own the SNES Super Metroid cartridge and my SNES.  I played through it a few months ago.  100% items, 2:29.  I had previously done it in 2:42, and I set a goal for myself of 2:30 or less.  Just made it.  :)

Have you ever tried a fastest time....without going for all the missiles....you will find that your charge beam comes in handy....why don't you play along this week....see how low you can get your time.

i would say i like the level design more in prime 1 simply becuase everything is where it should be..echoes is a great game in its own right..the simple reason i enjoyed prime 1 more is because it was my first one..

echoes also had 2 unfair mini boss battles cause the save stations are a long way from em..that meant u had to do an entire section all over again if you cocked it up.. + the idea of the dark world is cool but the actual dark world is not as compelling as light world..those are my only complaints really..as for the rest great game..

@stof

i would play prime 2 before i touch prime 3...i have a feeling once we all feel how it controls with the wiimote we won't go back..

I have Pinball. I always liked Pinball games, so a Metroid themed one was a must for me. I'm not going to pretend like it holds a candle to actual Metroid games but this is well done and worth a try for any Metroid fan. My only main gripe is that there weren't enough 'normal' tables. Chozo Ruins could have served as the third.

For what it's worth Nintendo Power gave it a 10.  Apparently it is only the second 10 they have given ever so we probably shouldn't discount the review right away on the fact that it is a Nintendo magazine.

Gonintendo has a picture of it here

By the way. For those of you trying to finish the prime series before mp3, remember that your percent complete is a percentage of total items. So if you are at 25% you are probably 60% done with the game. This should take some of the pressure off.

Now I remember the other thing I wanted to say in this thread!  :)  If you are 60% done with the game with only 25% of the items collected, you're doing a piss poor job of collecting items.    I think I finished Prime for the first time with 75%, and in the last 2, maybe 3 hours of gameplay, I wasn't collecting many new items (I'm fairly certain that the artifacts don't count toward your percentage, and the final two boss battles take a long time).

As it is... if you've got the gravity suit... you're maybe halfway?  I think that's about right.  Cause then you can do the... which leads to... yeah, you're about halfway.  :)
