I went to see the Bourne Ultimatum yesterday and there was a trailer for Halo 3 at the beginning which showed a young boy and girl lying in the grass staring at the stars asking each other if there was alien life out there and if they wondered about us too. Then it pans up then pans back down into first person perspective and you see your helmet lying on the ground which you procede to put on and jump into battle.
Having two children of each sex sitting side by side in Master Chief's childhood shows they're probably playing up the ambiguity of Master Cheif's gender as many argue he could be a girl, a theory popularized recently by the fan made cross over, "Haloid" which pitted Master Cheif "Master Chick" against Samus Aran who both in the end learn the truth of eachother's gender behind the mask and make up becoming lesbian lovers. (Can find it on Gametrailers, oh btw the way, Master Chief is apparently the Major from Ghost in the Shell according to it too).
Kind of reminds me of the hype behind Boba Fett's gender (Star Wars) from fans who wanted to believe the man of mystery was really a woman.
