Factor 5 shut down according to IGN’s Matt Casamassina

The blurb you see below was posted by Matt Casamassina over on the IGN Boards…

Was hoping the rumors weren’t true. Contacted Julian over at F5 to shed some light, but he didn’t get back to me. Got an e-mail from an inside source tonight:

“Hi Matt,

How have you been? Haven’t seen you guys since E3. I hope that you’re doing well!

[Edit] wanted me to contact you with some late breaking news. We just learned from inside sources that developer Factor 5 has officially closed their doors as of today. That’s some pretty big news considering that those guys have been around for quite a while. It’s definitely a real shame! I hope that this information is helpful to you. Take care, and please say hi to Bozon for me.”

Beh. Not sure what this does to Kid Icarus, either, but it sure doesn’t sound good. I’ll keep you posted. I’m still holding out some kind of hope there may yet be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Uh oh, this can’t be good at all. Looks like those Wii projects that Factor 5 were helming might be in a bit of trouble. I’d say it’s up to Nintendo to bail those games out! Thanks to TheGame for the heads up.

Wow, right after Free Radical!  Quick, can anyone tell me what these two studio's last games had in common?

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8

Lair sinks Factor 5, Haze sinks Free Radical, Hellgate: London sinks Flagship Studios... It looks like a single large bomb can destroy a company these days. Now I pray that Silicon Knights will not be destroyed by the performance of Too Human.

Super World Cup Fighter II: Championship 2010 Edition

Ah, shit.

I wonder if Nintendo will give them a belated hand.

The Wii killed another awesome developer. Damnit Nintendo!!!

Tease.

I hope this sends out a message to all developers and publishers. One single HD game that flops means game over for most. Either make succesful HD games or develop for the Wii.

Like Take 2 stated, you just can't ignore the Wii any longer. It would mean your downfall.

well, sutudios are not immune to credit crunch ... the wii dose not cut down on the fact programers/designers need to be paid. this might actually cause nintendo and MS to buy studios in trouble out right, as they both can afford to keep the talent and might want to buy ips at cut rate price. sony has a larger developer base internally then either nintendo or MS. Id also have to say it would be hard to make that pitch right now to save devs when sony as a company might not turn a profit next quarter (but then a lot of companies are in the same boat)

Too damn bad. They were very talented people.

As for "PS3 exclusive sinks studio", don't you think Sony has payed them for it?

^whatever Sony paid them, it obviously wasn't nearly enough.
