So they bought them already or they are still rumours?

Still rumors, and an unlikely one at that, unless Take Two is coming out of this with some serious cash.

The Greatest Game Ever Conceived On Any Platform
Tag: "I have tasted Obi-Wan's bitter tears"
As I think about this more it just doesn't make sense. I'm declaring shenanigans.
1) This information should be confidential. It would greatly impact stock prices and it would likely hurt Take Two alot.
2) Rockstar/Take Two doesn't want to pass up the revenue to develop on Microsoft systems
3) PS3 is the most expensive platform to develop for and the most difficult platform to develop for. If you throw in the userbase limitations (PS2 was at 20 million+ when GTA 3 came out), Rockstar stands to lose alot here.
4) If the acquisition overtures were real, rumours would exist in more reputable (industry) sources (gamasutra, gamedaily, ign, gamespot, level up, etc).
5) This is a great way to get hits for your website...

Bad games with to high budgett. Latly it is more or less only Rockstar that have shown some serious profit.
@Topic
I don't now about this:
I think it could save T-2 and give them enough money to reconstuct the rest of their buisness but it sound strange. The GTA4 deal with Microsoft shows that T-2 have the power to sell exclusive games from Rockstar and get them funded by the company of choice.
NOTE this is a question or speculation I don't want to flame!
Can it be that we actualy is reading to much into this? Is it simply so that Sony is paying rockstar for making a game for them, it will most possible be great even if it isn't a "GTA" so why not? That could be a way for T-2 to fund Rockstar (and they need a big budgett) meanwhile the get their finances going in the right direction.
Of course T-2 would get a lot for Rockstar, Micsrosoft wouldn't let Sony get it to cheap meaning that a full blown bidding could be happening behind the curtains.
@Leo-j
You don't need to be so angry, I think rasone77 just meant that you can't sell 15 million GTA on a 4 million userbase.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!
I'm quite sure this story is a load in the pants. There isn't even a hint of a potential buyout on any financial website that I can find when reading news about Take Two and Sony. Analysts talk to executives regularly and if there was a hint this was possible (let alone probably as the OP suggests), the analysts would be all over it and it would be on the financial news feeds...
Until an independent source that isn't a wishful thinking fanboy site posts something up, it's pure rumor.
When I see the "rumor" on an RSS newsfeed then I'll consider it a strong possibility.
When I first read this rumor, I assumed "take them under their wing" meant something along the lines of "provide developer and tool support" so that Rockstar can turn out some fantastic titles on par graphically with Sony First Party. If there is any basis of fact in this little report, I highly expect this was the nature of the conversation. It may even be deep enough that Sony is going to put enough resources into "helping" the Rockstar team that it constitutes a fairly significant financial expenditure on Sony's part.
As far as cancelling GTA4 for the 360 if this IS real -- not going to happen. They are way too far in the development process to "throw it away" and any contracts that are entered into by Take Two/Rockstar cannot be undone in a aquisition unless the other party (MS) agrees to it.
I'm agreeing with everyone who said that this isn't going to happen. It's likely just another faked rumor akin to the bi-weekly "MGS4 ON 360!!!1111" blog posts that just exist to garner hits for semi-obscure gaming news websites.
Which is a big relief for me, since I want to see Rockstar continue to support the Wii. :)
"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

If Sony bought Rockstar, that would of course boost PS3 sales. But only in US and Europe though. I don't believe Take 2 will sell their main studio.

Yes I understand, but GTA moves hardware FAST on its own. You have GTA 4 exclusive on any console hardware jumps fast. We can see GTA 4 force a 15 million install base to develop rapidly.
