Forums - Nintendo - IGN's Wii Game of the Year award goes to....a wiiware title.

World of Goo wins IGN's game of the year award on wii.

In a showdown to the death, 2D Boy's magnificent physics-drenched puzzler edged out Super Smash Bros. Brawl for this year's top award. Partly because Brawl, with its welcomed extra characters and stages, ultimately hasn't changed much from its predecessor. And partly because Goo feels so fresh and new, not to mention innovative. Full of brain-teasing puzzles and engulfed by beautifully stylized graphics, it's a WiiWare game that redefines what is possible on Nintendo's download service and simultaneously puts the majority of retail Wii games to shame. Goo is as important to WiiWare as Wii Sports is to Wii.

Knew that was gonna happen. Craign and Matt wouldnt shut up how it deserved it. No matter what they say Brawl is GOTY for Wii.

SSBB didn't win? What is going on?

I'm pretty surprised. I guess I should actually play it.....

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I have this on PC. It's a good little puzzle game... but GOTY? Jeez, 2008 wasn't THAT bad for Wii was it?

Man WoG deserves it. In 24 years if gaming I have never had the same experience of balance, emotion, enthrallment than WoG.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Great, it's nice to see some love to independent developers that don't have the big money bags to put a full retail game.

It's good news that not just Nintendo could win GOTY ,which show us 3rd parties abilities to make great games for Wii too. :)

If this isn't an insult, than I don't know what is. I'm guessing that World of Goo is better than Mario Kart Wii also. This is their way of saying that the Wii sucks without actually coming out and saying it.

If I had a Wii I would pick up this game off WiiWare. The trailer I saw looked awesome.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
