Forums - Microsoft - "Bioshock 2 possibly a timed exclusive?"

To be fair to Take 2 it might not be an issue of paid exclusivity, but I would applaud them if they were able to finagle it out of Microsoft. Why turn your nose up at free money after all. No it may be the delay station phenomena at play. Take 2 has a game they want to deliver to the market this year. Scratch that perhaps it is more like needs to deliver.

So perhaps the development difficulties renowned for plaguing the PS3 may ensure that the time table for a simultaneous release would have slipped into the next year. Faced with that possibility Take 2 may have had to made the decision to focus on building the game on one platform, and then port it to the other. So if it is a timed exclusive it may be a short timed exclusive three or six months perhaps.

I will not hold a company accountable for Sony having built a shitty console. They made it difficult to program for. Why should developers take the heat. Just something to think about. Sometimes exclusivity isn't bought sometimes its just a physical limitation. A two year turn around is rather short so its at least logical.

I dislike Sony as much as the next guy, but that's uncalled for. I may think Sony itself as a company is trash, but you have to give credit when credit is due. The PS3 is a very nice machine. It may not be what the market wants right now, they completely overhyped it, and their dev tools could use more work, but it is a nice machine nonetheless. Don't be a fanboy for either side.

Good news Everyone!

I've invented a device which makes you read this in your head, in my voice!

Timed exclusives FTL.

If it's a moneyhat situation, at least.

ummm....   ahhhh....     okay I think i made a wrong turn somewhere back at the Christmas door, must have entered the 2007 one or something...

It would be wise to release it on both platforms at the same time, unless they want a repeat of this situation

If it is a timed exclusive, its obviously much more likely to be for 360 instead of PS3. As we know, Microsoft loves shelling out money for that stuff.

That said, I almost wish it was a PS3 timed exclusive even though im a 360 owner. Whatever will help PS3 owners pick up both it and the original is a good thing, because this is a franchise and world that deserves to be experienced by as many people as possible, and x360 owners are probably more likely to pick it up anyway, given their exposure to it.

Kudos!   That's probably the most unbiased response to a thread since i joined this site. You are a True Gamer indeed. As as PS3 owner i will buy the 1st part of Bioshock but like the previous response i'm not willing to pay 59.99 for it. Especially this time of year with the games released over the last 2 months.

Thanks.

Don't give me too much credit though: notice i did say that "I almost wish it was PS3 timed exclusive."   When it actually comes out I'll probably be frothing at the mouth to play it .

It´s not clever to do it timed exclusive, since being multiplat it can do easily 5mln+ on both consoles while as timed exclusive will do 60% of that.

BTW, the x360 is selling more due to the fact the x360 console itself is selling more. After the first buying rush, most of the sales are probably from newcomers, so the one selling the most should be in front. This is also valid for the Ps3 version, since is too expensive for a game so old. Of course, the x360 is also cheaper. Is nice to point out that the diference is not so big and a big chunk of possible buyers might be waiting for a price drop, so we have to wait till then.

Err... I think the time for delayed PS3 games is pretty much over. Obviously some games this year did (AITD, and some others), but to give such a broad "2009" release window, it can't have anything to do with development, or we would already have a date pinned down.

OT:

Probably not anything much, it could be a Wii version, or they could decide not to have it come out on PC at the same time.

Microsoft brings a lot to the table beyond money. It was the massive testing and advertising resources that turned the original Bioshock from a middling failed release into one of the big games of 2007. Because they don't have a significant 1st party investment they don't have a conflict of interest in pushing someone elses intellectual property. Bioshock would have failed and noone would have cared about it had Microsoft not been involved with the name, so any exclusivity would be moot.

Epic games was a middle of the line shooter developer, making good money but not much more and became a powerhouse in the industry because of a partnership with Microsoft. Just as Gears of War made Epic, it also made the Xbox 360 into the force it is today. What Epic doesn't tell you when it opens its books is how much Microsofts testing and coding departments really helped push that game far beyond what Epic alone could achieve, they simply were not big enough at the time to make Gears alone.

So for any developer wanting to make a game for HD consoles, getting a Microsoft exclusivity contract with full support from their marketing and testing departments is probably one of the best things that can happen for them.

Tease.

Also:

Why do people always jump to conclusions so much? Remember just a few days ago everyone jumped to MGS4 = 360 conclusion and were all pwned, why not just wait until some clarity?

If BS2 is times exclusive again then i don't know why they bother with 1 year old port which sold like crap. And BS2 port latter will be even bigger bomb on PS3.
