Forums - Nintendo - Metroid Prime 3: The Anti-Hype - IGN Article

Wow...just as I was about to make a thread called "Metroid Hype Thread"...because I figured, let's talk about Metroid and let people know about the game...IGN posts an article about how Metroid isn't getting advertised enough.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Link not working. Resume original idea.

At least following a comedians own jokes makes his death easier.

Matt Casamassina from IGN is getting nervous because Nintendo seems to forget to advertise their game.

Well it would be dumb if Nintendo failed to advertise a game that could easily sell a couple million without any help...if they publicize this game a lot, it could sell much more...though of course I remember seeing full tv ads all the time for Metroid...in December hehe.

I think they'll put out the advertising close to release like they do with most games...not too much different this time I'd say.

I agree with pretty much everything Matt mentioned in the editorial, especially given that I was trying to figure out why there was no Corruption link on the official webpage when i checked last week, it is a really poor effort

We have a competition in our store, Pre-order the game and you have a chance to win a statue of Samus in the same position she have in your sig Ben.

It's not big, but it's working.

Link looks correct. I guess IGN is blocking direct linking for some reason. You can find it on IGN's main Wii page:  http://wii.ign.com

Perhaps because MP3 is considered a 'hardcore' title, Nintendo assumes that those who are really interested in it will obsessively track down every detail they can from gaming sites. I know I am. ;)

The article has a point though. Wii controls have more FPS potential than other consoles have. If Nintendo could establish early on that they're the premium console for shooters, they could earn a good slice of the gaming market which is mostly interested in gunning down aliens and zombies. Which is a pretty big market, just look at all the PS3/360 shooters coming out. Growing the market to more casual gamers is great, but there's no reason they should have to sacrifice the shooter market.

There is a standee at Gamestop...I'm not sure how well advertising would a help a game like this....some people just hate the IDEA of this game. Either because it's not Halo, or because you have to retrace your steps. I appreciate Matt's concern, but I'm not sure hype will help. Hopefully the game sells itself. Your typical "blue ocean" non-gamer would not enjoy a Metroid title, nor give it enough time to appreciate it. Hardcores know it's out there. If you don't, you're not hardcore. Or something like that.

Didn't advertising for Boogie begin just a day or two before release?

-edit-
And this thread really scared me, I thought Metroid Prime 3 was going to get bad reviews.

The link didn't work because I accidentally had a space at the end.

The email correspondence from Nintendo was reassuring though:

"Nintendo fans will be surprised by the quantity and quality of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption information that becomes available before the game launches on Aug. 27. Your patience will be rewarded (or Corrupted)."
I mean, that could be complete bull...but it's not impossible.  A sizable amount of advertising starting very soon (this week into next week) would certainly surprise us Nintendo fans, since we seem to think Nintendo's not gonna do much.  So I'm gonna wait and see.
