Maybe.
Six months ago we all thought it would, and six months before that, we thought it wouldn't.
Methinks that in six months it will be a different story again.

I dont remember seeing that for the NES/SNES/N64 didnt pay attention to the cube.... yes they did have pack ins, and rotated them.... my second SNES came with Killer instinct in 95 i think it was... (didnt get a ps1 till 98). I never remember seeing a pack in for nintendo with more then 2 games. |
don't you remember super mario all star+world, 5 count 'em, 5 games in 1!!!! and free at that and the sega genesis only gives you 2
I think he is talking about NoaCs, you know those cheap-o nes knock offs with 75 variations of contra built in,
or he is talking about the packaging practices of a local video game specialty store that sells used games as I don't recall nintendo ever, ever packing new consoles with refurbished games
though clearly he is off in terms of the actual hardware (in the US atleast) as the nes last days were spent as a stand alone top loader with no games included retailing for $44.95, in the video game sections of the many stores that carried it
the snes last days were spent as the small variant with Yoshi's Island packed in and distributed by majesco at $50 in the video game section of the many stores that carried it

During the cart generations Nintendo was heavy into refurbishment. For both their first and second consoles. The succeeding generations did not produce the volume. Nor did they have a stockpile needing to be put through clearance. However at the tenth year when their were something close to under a hundred thousand units in remainder. You could indeed find Nintendo consoles in the toy section jammed full of cart games for under a hundred dollars. Basically Nintendo was doing everything to get rid of the hardware, and the software.
I can understand why you did not see these packages firstly you need to be thinking small chains, and severe discounters. Large chains had long since cleared out their stock, and were not interested in acquiring new stock of a console eight or nine years old. Smaller chains and heavy discounters however thrive on its old, but is still good. Secondly they were not to be found near the newer consoles in fact you were lucky to find them in the electronics section. You know where I always saw them right under the pegs for hand held games like video poker.
I actually considered buying one of these SNES packages five years ago when I saw one in a small store for fifty dollars it was vacuum sealed in hard plastic, and came with eight games sealed in with the package. All of this for fifty dollars. I thought it might make a good gift for a cousin. I still had an SNES collecting dust at the time, but the games offered were not all that inspired as far as I was concerned. So I just gave him my old console with the old games.

No, they didn't this was not nintendo's practice
if a small store did it, they did so at their own discretion with out nintendo's consent, Vacuum sealed means the store with a vacuum sealer packaged the console and the games together, they bought them second hand from sources other than nintendo. I know there are stores near where I live that still sell vacuum sealed snes and nes consoles in the manner you described and they certainly did not obtain them from nintendo.
do some research before making absolutely absurd claims you will find no credible evidence coroberating your story

PS3 wins last week by 10k sales, lets assume PS3 outsells X360 every week by 10k on average.
Based on PS3 outselling X360 by 10k units a week. It will take 810 weeks for PS3 to overtake XBox 360 or around 16 years.
So PS3 overtakes XBox 360 in 2025.

I don't see what the problem is, didn't Sony state that the PS3 is "future proof" and will last for 100 years?
Currently playing on PS3: God of War III
Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII
Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

That's a completely retarded way to analyze things, for many many reasons. Also, why did you necro this thread?

360's lead in the Western world is HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
PS3 taking japan is simply not enough.
360's Lead IMO to keep growing until the nextbox arrives.
And maybe then the ps3 will catch up a bit.
But microsoft will also be pulling away next gen too by then and won't care that the ps3 is eating in to their "last gen" consoles lead.
Real catch 22 situation for sony at the moment.
I hope MS is prevented from becoming big enough to be a threat to this market, but for this it's enough that Nintendo is bigger than it, and that Sony and strong competition survive, but before PS3 eventually pass 360 I think it's necessary Sony learns humility first: when Sony was king it was often arrogant towards its customers, particularly the Europeans, I hope after all this bashing it won't happen anymore.
last year at this time i cast necro on this thread, as i felt it fun to look at our past thoughts on the race. I will do the same again this, I hope i do not get banned, and that this thread does not get locked, as i feel it would be nice to see it once a yer till the generation is over
it has been an interesting year, the ps3 looks to close out the year within 1 million of where i thought it would be and the 360 underperformed due to poor management by ms. i had felt other changes needed to be done going into this holiday season, but ms seemed fine with last years sales points. i feel this years hard ware offering at current cost is a rip off especially the new elite and lack of a hard drive on the arcade, what should be the pro.
it seems as though they are bidding their time until next year with hopes that the natal and keep the prices high now so they do not have to be raised. I feel this is a foolish stratagy, unless the natal is sold at a major loss or packed into all hot selling games and consoles it will not reach a large enough attach to be a major concern no accessory really ever has unless this was done (dual shock/analog on the ps1 is the only one that comes to mind)
so my prediction it looks dire for the 360 to stay on top I had always felt 2012 would be the soonest any new generation console could come out right now it feels that unless one comes out in fall 2012 to end this generation the 360 will be passed that year.
though with the ebb and flow fo this gen who knows
its been fun to watch and read though
