Cueil - Yeah, kinda ;)

Are you being serious, or are you being sarcastic?

I've been playing Fallout 3 for awhile now and I think it is (probably) the best western RPG I have played in a long time ... I absolutely hated Oblivion though, so we could just have completely different tastes in games.

So is this like GTAIV boring?

In how I was comparing it to how Oblivion looked, yeah I can see where that is amusing. I laughed when I saw what you just wrote, because I saw it too.

It is really only because everything I see, whether it be in the distance or close up looks so gray. Nuclear war, World destruction, whatever the case may be I still wouldn't think that the world turns gray.

Stickball talked about "The Oasis" so maybe the game gets some more color. I'll eventually find out.

@FishyJoe

You found that game horribly boring too?

@TC

You know, I'm kinda inclined to agree that Fallout 3 does feel boring, but for different reasons. If anything, Fallout 3 feels really, really SAFE.

I had written a 2-page long rant about this issue, but decided to condense it down to this:

******WARNING - SPOILERS IMMINENT******

1) Your character will develop into an omnipotent being really fast unless you specifically fight against this (ie. you don't pick the obviously useful perks, you don't read books,you don't use VATS,you handicap your skills etc.). At least leveling up does SOMETHING now.

Oh yeah, bodily needs and permanent damage are still not implemented - so you can run around for a year with 800 rads without nutrition or sleep and get away with it every time.

2) VATS is essentially a legal god mode. The games combat is piss-ea... er, quite forgiving even on higher difficulties, why would you need something like this? It really has nothing to do with turn-based combat anyway.

3) Karma is still not split from Reputation, most people are still psychics, and giving enough water to a vagrant still makes up for butchering a bunch of slaves. Or destroying a city.

4) You can't fuck up a quest unless you encounter a bug, or specifically try to. You can try most skill checks again when you fail them, and even if you can't, violence solves everything. Always.

The game's still pretty good IMO, better than Oblivion at least. But for a Fallout game, playing it safe every single time doesn't really cut it, IMO.

This sort of game is not normally my cup of tea but after I got out of the vault and got past Megatron the game opened up and I actually started enjoying the game.

Like all these types of games certain aspects become boring but on the whole enough happens to keep the pace moving.

My game of flavour are FPS and although not a FPS its does a good job keeping me going.

My early observations would probably of matched yours although I never questioned why it was grey. All I can say as the game unfolds it becomes more interesting.

My biggest issue playing this on the PC is the crashes so far searching for the Wests on the bridge has a repeatable crash also my first trip to the GNR building and the big bugger who I took out with the Fat boy also caused repeated crashes which are frustrating, but it helped me to reinforce the need to save regularly.

The game only seemed grey so far after I left the Vault. In the Vault it was alright.

Could just be this area of the game, seems like others may have a bit more color.

The game is supposed to look bleak. The Fallout 3 art people researched and found that years after a massive nuclear war, vegetation would be everywhere, but they chose to go with the classic wasteland feel.

If you like post-apoc stuff, Fallout 3 is a dream come true. A Logan's Run like world, wouldn't fit the genre imo.

naw Chernobal or however you spell it isn't on the same level and that's where most research on this shit is based off of... the problem is that the ground was super heated as well making the crust worthless for plant life... it would take something around 200 years to put soil on top that could support life outside of basic plants...  I imagine that places like TN and KY would have plenty of plant life though so eventually life would return by a slow march from the middle of the country... Wolves would be have recovered completely as well... they are a hardy creature and fast breading to
