i think the 1st topic for this thread will be : battle systems. so please think of the past battle systems in rpg's where u actually had to pay attention to what was going on , so u wouldnt die and was actually a cool system as well.

For me certain things work and certain things don't.
For Traditional RPG's I like turn based.... as long as it's not first person like Dragon Quest.....
For action I like Tales and Kindom hearts styled play, but disliked Star Ocean on the PSP :S. I'll have to try one of the PS2 games one of these days.
OFF Topic: For the next discussion how does "Strategy RPG Gameplay" sound?
Nice thread Idea btw.

Press turn system - SMT: Digital Devil Saga 1&2. Forget about you're enemy's strong point once, and you could be dead. Forget to cover your weakness, you're dead.
Fun? you can do the same to your opponent :)
@dgc1808 your next topic discussion is now the lead topic along with stories and thank you for your comment about the thread.

Cool :)
Any Disgaea or Fire Emblem fans?? [needs to play Fire Emblem of these days...]
It would be nice if more RPG of different play styles gave you as many things to do as Disgaea, would be nice to get 200+ hours on a turn based or action RPG without mainly have to do meaningless tasks.

I really enjoy turn based strategy battle systems, especially Disgaea. Even though it's not an RPG, I do think Advance Wars is the best implementation of a TBS battle system ever made.
Recently, I found the VATS system in Fallout 3 to be pretty cool. Also Odin Sphere was simple yet engaging. It makes me very excited for Muramusa: The Demon Blade.
IMHO Grandia has the Best battle system by far.
The second best would be Star Ocean
The third would be Legend of Dragoon
Among SRPG almost all of them play the same, however I like Fire emblem's battle system the most.
I like the real-time with an option to make turn based decisions. Like Kotor, Fallout 3 or Mass Effect. If a battle is easy then i dont worry about making complex tactical decisions and just blast my way through. Otherwise I can sit back, take my time and decide how I want to approach the battle.
I have nothing against pure turn-based but I prefer that I have at least control over my characters positions like in pretty much any SRPG. The whole enemies fighting each other in a line doesnt cut it for me, the battle simply becomes a matter of who has better equipment/stats or knowing enemy's weakness, which is usually not hard (Fire is Super Effective against grass pokemon).
Proud owner of the following gaming devices:
PC, XBox 360, Wii, PS2, DS, PS3
the battle systems i enjoyed the most were shadow hearts, legend of dragoon, grandia series, disgaea series and star ocean series, kotor was pretty cool as well.
