Well with only like 2 weeks or so left until 2008 hears the game over music time for 2009 predictions.

From what i can read it would seem general census might be the PS3 will close the gap on the 360 in 2009. It has some hyped up games for it coming such as KillZone2, White Knight, maybe God of War 3 and GT5. Some nice titles if they actually come out next year and live up the bar people have come to expect!

I think the start to 2009 will be very different to the start of 2008. In 2008 we saw the PS3 gain some momentum coming into the year. But now i think it's on the other foot. The 360 is in the sweet price spot and sales are not going to just dry up anytime soon. The 360 could continue to sell it's current high amount each week even if the PS3 does get a price cut. I just can't see a $50 price cut or even a $100 price cut making much difference in the long run. It will get the nice boost but the numbers will then fade away. I would expect the 360 to increase the gap over the last few weeks of this year and continue outselling the PS3 comfortably at least until march. Then the price cut will come and get a good few months for the PS3 to claw back some of the early 09 gains by the 360. But then again around July time just as this year i would expect sales of both consoles to be down a lot by the time we get to november with both running neck and neck. Then when the holiday season comes once again the 360 will probably see bigger sales once again due to being cheaper.

So my prediction for the gap between the 360 and the PS3 by the end of 2009 = 360 still with over a 7m gap but most likely nearer to 10m then 7m.

The momentum is with the 360 and it will hit the new year running hard. I just can't see the smallish price cut for the PS3 not only halting the momentum of the 360 but rising above it. The 360 is just too cheap now. The PS3 needs something big now to give it the push it will need. KZ2 and WKC will not be it.

PS3 price drop at E3, 360 price drop beginning of September by the same amount maintaining the current gap and thus bigger sales.

It's hard to say, but I wouldn't be shocked (at the current pace) if the 360 total was +13,000,000 over the PS3. But I suppose it really just depends upon price cuts by Sony next year. So I'll just play it by ear and see what happens.

Possibly.  But that is also assuming that MS and Nintendo wouldn't also drop their console prices as well.  For instance, if Sony drops the PS3 to $299.00 and MS drops the 360 Arcade to $149.00, it really wouldn't help very much... and chances are, by the time Sony is able to sell the PS3 at $299.00, MS may very well be able to do just that.

 According to your last predictions the gap should be closed 4 months ago and the wii would be dead and last. ^^ But just keep on making predictions to show the power of the PS3, THAT'S THE SPIRIT!

Well my guess is 6-7 million. But it is hard to say at this point of time. we don't know about a ps3-price-cut, we don't know about Xbox360-games, we don't know anything. So let's see.

Microsoft will exit 2008 with an 8M gap over Sony.

The Sony price cut will not come before Oct 09 and will not be larger than $50. It is just as likely that they will just sell the $160GB model at the $400 price.

I see the 360 continueing the 2:1 sales ratio momentum untouched until EO sep 09 selling 6M units WW vs 3.5M units for the PS3 for the same time period.

Going into the Holidays Sony will try to become more competitive. But they will have just few degrees of freedom. They cannot take the price down too much because they cannot afford to lose money on the units so they will try to up the specs and use bundles. Also some AAA exclusives will come out at that time (GOW, GT5). BRD will have a good year in 2009 which will help some the value prop of Sony./

But these moves will not be enough. Microsoft by them will have all the momentum with the hardcore community and they will have their own set of exclusives (the new Halo, Forza...). Sony's Playstation brand name will be beaten to a pulp by the press, analysts and the intertube, and will be eroded to at this point to almost nothingness.

With this I predict 360 Holiday sales to be at 6.5M and Sony's to be at 4M.

So together the 360 will sell 12.5M in 2009 compared to Sony's 7.5M rounding the gap to 13M.

If GT 5, FF13 in Japan and a $300 PS3 are all available by the end of 2009, the gap could be as little as 3 million.
