Same here. The Wii has a great line up for X-mas aswell.

ahead by 700-800k?  Do you know how much 360 would have to sell to get that kind of number?  Wii is selling 230-250k per week right now, while 360 is at 50-60k WW.  After the Japan numbers get updated Wii will only be behind by 220k as of aug 4th.  Do you realize how far ahead Wii is gonna be by Sept. 25th when Halo comes out?  It's gonna be somewhere in the neighborhood of 500-700k.  Couple that with the fact that 360 will have to sell 4-5 times its normal levels to even break even with the Wii in weekly sales it's not gonna happen.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Yes I agree with you John Sobas, Wii will have trashed 360 and left it in a wheelchair by the end of this year... what's your point ?

Why not? 3 year warranty, price drop, holiday season, and great games other than Halo 3 will = major sales increase for the 360. The Wii is selling out every month which is incredible but unless they manage to pull some more Wii's out of their but they will only sell around what they have been selling every month.

This is the problem...You can't expect the fact that games for the 360 since GOW have not pushed many systems worldwide. This is a trend that has gone on for years in gaming. Spring and Summer do not make or break a system. Its the holidays. If that isn't true, then as a comprhensive chart sight pull up seasonal numbers. Also what the Wii is doing is really phenominal, but at some point all things that go up must come down (slow down in the Wii's case). You guys also seem to casually throw Halo 3 to the side. Well here's a fact you can research on your own. 4 million preorders...You do the math. If Halo 3 is worth the price of admission as a bonifide good game, then expect fervor like its no ones buisness and systems to fly. I'm not discounting the Wii's success at all. I think they've done an increible job. The problem is that they can't meet demand fast enough, also they have a thin line up this holiday season. Metroid Prime series is great, but against Halo?...No contest. What about a game like Call of Duty 4...One of the best selling launch titles for the Xbox 360 happened to be a predcessor of the series. The game is already on peoples wish list. Do you believe Smash Bros is aimed at the casual gamer or the fan of it? You believe the same people playing Wii tennis are going to get into it?  PGR4 is another title to pay attention to as well. For me the one thing to keep in mind is that software sells systems. If this is a basic theory in gaming, then why won't the 360 sell more units? Every game I've mentioned has sold both software and systems. Why would it not happen this holiday? Then add in a price job. These are all ingredients for success not failure.

To call the 360 a system for hardcore gamers is like calling the Wii a fat boy's exercise machine. It doesn't tell the whole story.  Most people I know are not talking up the Wii's great game play, more it's casual admission for non-gamers and ease of use. Most companies aren't even really pushing the system graphically, and its outdated tech. So there's no excuse for that. In terms of sales, these are obviously not the same people who bought Game Cubes. In fact they may not have even heard of one.

 All in all I love this because we get to watch gaming grow, and be a true topic of relevant discussion. So I look forward to seeing how all the systems fair. I just felt that people were ignoring some real obvious issues with the sales of both systems at the current time, and not looking at the whole picture.

@Kingslayer,

By in large the ignoring of Halo 3 has a lot to due with the fact that a sizeable portion of the people who pre-ordered the game already have a 360. The Halo 3 beta was a month ago and the level of hype you refer to that is surrounding the game is the exact reason why those people had a 360 or got a 360 for the Halo 3 beta.

Everyone realizes that Halo 3 will move consoles, or at least they should. But there are a number of reasons to believe it won't be the fantastically large amount some might speculate.

Also, you are ill-informed about the Wii lineup for this holiday. Check around the forums here, there are PLENTY of other threads highlighting the lineup this Holiday.

To Each Man, Responsibility

I see you're logic, but Halo isn't a regular title. You have to put it in the uber league, with games like GTA, MGS, and Mario. It's a beast that has a life of it's own, and once it gains mometum it doesn't stop for quite a while. You are right about the majority of people who preordered it may own 360's. I would also add that not 4 million of them played the beta. So there's room for new adopters. What happens if the game gets a great review? The fact that the game releases in September, word of mouth and hysteria could really put it back into prominence again. Being the must have title. Will this happen? I don't know, at the very least I believe the game will sell 2 million more systems world wide. Notice I am still keeping in mind that the Wii is selling reasonably, therefore still putting my own guestimate of Microsofts lead at the #'s I mentioned earlier.

@kingslayer.
While your arguments are reasonable your overestimating the strength of the 360's lineup while underestimating that of the Wiis.
While I must concede there will be no bigger title this year than Halo 3 there is not enough other 'huge' games to support it, I mean what else is there? PGR4 CoD4 and Bioshock are the only three other big releases I can think of. The Wii has three titles 'aka. the holy trinity' that while each is smaller than H3, are all bigger than any other game coming to the X360, these are SMG, SSBB and MP3

Anyway, Im not sure how the lineup will affect the holidays but I dont think its at all fair to call the Wii's lineup 'thin'.

 Edit: And I dont think MGS is an 'uber' title, Id give that distinction to FF.

I'm sorry, but Halo is not bigger then Mario.

But see that's the point.

Come holiday season, Nintendo will be doing exactly that. They will be pulling Wiis out of their butt (warehouses).

And the Wii will outsell the 360 during the holidays. Hell they did it LAST holidays, and they were absolutely so far away from meeting demand they STILL haven't caught up!
