its a great announcement for wii owners, and they deserve quality third party games,, but it's a sad announcement for DQ fans like me,,,, i always dreamed of playing a DQ in HD, especially if Level 5 is the developpers,, but now we will be getting a game with the same graphics as number 8 which is 3-4 years old,,, sad :(

 

If DQ8 is your favorite game on PS2 I don't understand your problem, honestly. DQ8 looked great, but nothing like FF12 or MGS3 for example.
I do understand the handheld thing, personally I love the DS and play it more than my Wii and 360, but I can understand people not liking it. However DQ10 will be much prettier than DQ8 since the Wii is quite a bit more powerfull and the technology has evolved over time.
If you look at Mario Galaxy you know what big budget games can look like on Wii. Hell even Zelda Windwaker on Cube is still one of the prettiest games ever made.

And real fans of the series never played the game for the graphics I think.

Two things.

1. Anyone with common sense would know they wouldn't put DQ on the HD consoles after they announced DQ IX on the DS.

2. The game won't have the same graphics as VIII. No trolling.

Soriku, I think it'll depend on the developer. If Level 5 makes it, looks for something pretty. But if SE makes it, expect them to use DQ:Swords engine.

No, I know what I'm talking about because I'm a huge FF fan and FFXII was a discrace. It took a huge step away from what FF actually way.

Okay, I can agree with that lol. It was definitly not a bad game, I did enjoy playing it for the most part. It just lacked FF-ness to me.

 

Now you know how most people who played the first 6 felt about FF 7,8,10 and 11. (and 12.)

Japanese games were never at the front of technology. Their games have always been on consoles.

Take a look at the hardware. The NES, SNES, etc. These systems were always far behind PCs. Super Mario RPG came out the same time Quake did. Ocarina of Time came out the same year Half-life did. FFIX came out a year after the Dreamcast released! God of War 2 came 6 months after freggin Gears of War did (and with the PS3 out)! I can go on, but basically, many games that have been praised were far behind the times in terms of graphics.

This constant complaining about DQX going to the Wii would be similar to PC users back in the day whining about the Japanese not developing for them. Seriously, the HD consoles don't really play to the Japanese' strengths - even if the PS3 is the successor to last gen's PS2, it's closer to a computer than a console (as Sony themselves have said).


@outlawauron: There's no way SE is going to screw up their biggest game in Japan. DQ: Swords is nothing compared to the main series.

Don't discount the possibility of FFXIV. There's nothing stopping it, assuming FFXIII is ever actually, you know, released.

Letting your hands be spaced out so you can relax better while playign it hours at a time.

The splitable controller is the best part about the wii.

I'll take that over HD graphics any day.

On any game or genre for that matter.

SE never makes it, so...no. Level 5 will no doubt make it, DQ IX releases in a little over 3 months. They're in the finishing stages. Not to mention they're more free than before - WKC is releasing this month too! Plus a lot of their handheld games come out soon next year too. But let's just say hypothetically SE did make it - they won't the DQS engine for their next main game after DQ X.

Btw, using the DQS engine would've been a perfect argument against this for tres lol!

 

Yeah SE never makes the main series DQ games, so I don't think that's even an issue with this game, level 5 has huge success with the series and I don't see why they wouldn't continue it.

Just so we're clear here: Dragon Quest is SE's second most profitable brandname. DQX will have a massive budget and will apply to all quality standards Horii wants it to apply. No matter who will develop it. And I don't understand how people seriously  can say things like "if SE makes it  it will be crap..." while eagerly waiting on the next screenshot for FF13. SE main series is pure quality. That's why SE is on the top for 20 years.

I don't think HD would have done much for this game. I honestly don't think there's much difference between DQ Swords on Wii and Valkyria Chronicles on PS3.





Actually, DQ Swords might even look better o_o
