Forums - Sales Discussion - (Japan) it makes no sense for SE to keep FF XIII exclusive

i agree with you, there was no reason to keep it exclusive- but then they should stop making other games 360 exclusive (even timed,) its really unfair to the sony fans

they would of got Star Ocean 4 and the Last Remnant the same time they come out on the 360.

Correct me if I'm wrong but......

Square said themselves that XIII hasn't even been ported to the PS3 yet, so it'd be entirely feasable that they decide to port both at the same time and save $$$ due to localizing at the same time.

IDK, I haven't heard a report on that, but wouldn't that require to have people working on both the PS3 and 360 version of the game rather than just the 360 version?  The game would have to be pushed back to accomadate developing on both platorms simultaneously.

And again, for sales of 150k, would this really be worth it?

It also didn't make sense for IU and TLR to be exclusive either, and they still are.

So... >_>

It makes perfect sense for IU to be exclusive when Microsoft owns the IP (only the 50 billionth time that's been said).

It would be more important for Sony that the game remained exclusive in Japan as, like Dallinor said, thats the area that will push the most hardware and possibly even the software (since FF games always have an opening of ~1.8-2.0 million)

It is a shame that the game is not completely exclusive to the PS3 as it would be better for Sony if it had remained that way... Oh well, it is a better thing for Square-Enix though as it maximizes the sales of the game! At least FFXIII Versus is still exclusive (for now at least)

Like GTA going multi and maximizing sales? Nope, still sold 12 million combined like Vice City

Or DMC4? Nope. Still sold roughly 2.5 million like previous titles.

Console numbers may be different but fanbases stay the same. If a person has a PS3 and a 360, it's still only one sale of the game. If he onl has one console it's still one sale. If you're going to buy FF, you're going to buy it, no matter what platform it's on, so ultimately they sales numbers in the end remain the same.

Edit: The only time a game gets "maximized" by going multi is if say GTA4 sold 24 million because Vice City only sold 12 million. Maximizing =/= getting the same amount of profit

You don't think that those games would have sold less on just one console?  There is no way that GTAIV makes it to nearly 12 million on only the PS3.

It would make a lot more sense for SO4 to go multiplatform instead of FFXIII. All the JRPGs have sold like crap on the 360 in Japan.

well S-E said the crystal Engine works on PC....so everyone is assuming PS3 versions is a port

when in fact Kitase later on said ever since FF7 they have made FF's through engine's on PC....the latter quote people seem to have forgotten.

The last thing I've seen was an interview where Nomura was talking about how the programers got the game to run on the PS3 (airship in world map), and that was about 1 year ago. So, to me, it sounds like SquareEnix has been working directly with the PS3 while they worked with PC-based tools (just like naughty dog with Uncharted, guerilla with KZ2, and anyother game ever made for consoles). AKA, a long time ago.

OnTopic: I don't think the sales would be enough to spend that much more resources on speeding up the 360 port. Multiplatform titles in Japan that are sold as same day releases typically favor the PS3 version by around 3-4 times the amount (in more extreme cases, even more)

The real question isn't "Why would square keep FF13 exclusive in Japan?" but rather "Why would square keep SO4 and IU exclusive in Japan?".

Based on Japanese 360 sales opposed to PS3, SquareEnix is basically asking for (at most) only 33% of the sales they would have gotten if the game were multiplatform.
