Forums - Sales - Wii/360/PS3 million sellers stackup!

Ok, like I said I wasn't sure where Wii Sports wasn't bundled. Anyways, my main reason to focus on Million sellers is to say that the Wii needs more new IPs. If they want to continue to sell first party games as a majority of their sales, they need new ones. You can't tell me that all of you would prefer Mario Party 9, a new Mario RPG, a new Zelda game with the similar story, and a new Smash Bros. game over some new, refreshing IP and gaming experience.

As I wrote, I kind of tried to include too much information at once, but the main things are they need to refresh their existing IPs and create new ones to continue their First Party game domination.

now i agree it is not fair that you remove one bundle over another. but wii sports, has been bundled with every console sold in na, there is a big difference between that and speradic bundling of different games

though i hope bundling catches back on, and every console comes with at least one game ..... sony killed that back in the day.... only had a demo disc... and id like to see it come back

My mean reason for discounting the bundle of Wii Sports and Wii Play is simply because they are both "arcade" level games.  They aren't full in depth games like Forza of Viva.  To take out all bundles would be impossible, but the bundled games like Wii Sports and Wii Play if sold without a bundle would be like $10-20 games.

Now I will agree with you, that I would love to see some new IP's from Nintendo (Kid Icuras for example) but in reality, I would also love to see Mario Party 9, as I love the series, and I enjoyed 8, but I would have loved more games based on motion and the full capabilities of the system, rather than just a quick port up from the GC.

Anyways, as for new IP's or original ideas, we've already got Wii Music, Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wii Play, Big Brain Academy, Super Paper Mario (nothing else is like this game) and Link's Crossbow training (never had a FPS Zelda game) have now joined the ranks of your traditional sequal type games like Mario Galaxy, and Metroid Prime 3.

Also, in general people do not like change. Typically you find something you like, and you want more of it. So it can be expected that familiar franchies will do much better than a new IP.

Is this about us?

We (forumgoers) tend to buy things that aren't popular anyway, so what we want shouldn't have anything to do with 1st party domination. On this site, very small selling games like NMH (.36m), Zack & Wiki (.48m), and even Okami (.15 NA) are more widely owned / praised than games like Wii Fit (11.38m). Their first party domination will continue, whether we like it or not.

Anyway, new IP's from Nintendo sounds nice, but this gen is still pretty new - the Wii has only seen two years on the market. The Wii Series is their main new IP for now, if you're asking for more, you'll have to be patient. The games will come.

edit: Wii Sports is/was sold in Japan for the equivalent of about $40. Far from a $10-20 game.

people also seem to forget that not every 1st party game is a huge hit. you have

Disaster: Day of Crisis
Batallion Wars Wii
Endless Ocean
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Wario Land: Shake It!
Excite Truck
Captain Rainbow (japan only)

all of which are a good variaty compared to their mainstream hits. 3 totally new IP's, and a few extremely "hardcore" games.

Well let's remove GTA4 and Halo 3 from the 360 just because I feel like it. Oh look, Nintendo is dominating Microsoft in sales!!!!

See, I can do it too.

Can third parties have the word Wii in their titles? If they could, the games would sell like hotcakes.

No, Nintendo owns the rights to the word Wii and it can only be used on a product with their consent. Also, since Nitnendo needs to protect their intellectual property, they will not allow a 3rd party to use any of their names except under very specific circumstances like Mario & Sonic at the Olympics.

Mario Kart comes bundled with a steering wheel the same way Wii Play comes bundled with a Wii Remote.

It's kinda the same thing.
