@numonex, dude that is just a weak damn excuse. Don't you think casuals snapped up the PS2? of course they did with that many sold.

I ask this question, would you sacrifice your current position, namely PS3's, if in turn it meant massive profits, a greater variety of games and (unfortunately) alot of crap ones too. The only problem i see with the Wii is that developers are being frustrated by processing capabilities and that will be dealt with in time. With 50% market share there will be tons of developers more interested.

Don't answer, in a years time the answer will be quite obvious.

PS2 had both casual and core games and gamers and was the ultimate console. Wii will never be PS2 because the market is split. Core gamers aren't magically going to migrate to a Nintendo console in this day and age. The casual/hardcore ratio on the Wii is heavily favoring casuals.

where have you based this statistic?  if its out of your butt, then way to go!

Poor third party core game sales. 360, and even PS3 trump it in that department. I can't imagine there's too many of them on the Wii except for the pure Nintendo loyalists.

Wii is number one because it has captured the casuals and child markets. The HD consoles are aimed towards teenage boys and young adult males aka hardcore gamer market.

So i'm hardcore because i'm a teenage boy and i'll hardcore until i become an old adult? Awsome!

I agree and disagree

thats a chicken or the egg scenario: until recently there were very few "core" 3rd party games that weren't bad ports.  Ones that have quality sold very well, whiles ones like Ubisofts farcry wii debacle were bad, and passed over.  games like Red Steel stand at odds with this assumption completely as it went platinum rather fast.  now that quality games are rolling in after such a long 3rd party drought, this will become more apparent.

Wii isn't too popular. Its fueling Nintendo's bank account for Wii2/DS2. I hope the Wii knocks the PS2 of its perch.

Yes, hope is your only option. PS2 is...

The funniest part? If you replace "PS2" with "Atari 2600", "Wii" with "NES", "PS3" with "Amiga", and "XBOX 360" with "Commodore", and adjusted specs/arguments/games mentioned accordingly, this entire discussion would sound not at all out of place for 1988. History, you are a cruel mistress, making us do everything over again every 10, 20, 40, and 80 years and usually not even realize it...

How has anything changed from two years ago? Nothing.

The Wii isn't too popular, it's the superior console, that's all.
Even if everyone can't understand why, at least, everyone can feel it.
That's why it's so popular.

The problem is for the 3rd party. Last gen, they couldn't justify making games for the competitors to PS2. Now, the games' budget have skyrocketed, and they will need 3-5 times last time's losers' market share to justify making games they made for the winner, and not die.

I'm eagerly looking at how they get out of this pit.

If history is any indicator (and it usually is), most of them won't. The ones that do will be the ones that threw their lot in with Nintendo and finally "got" what makes a Wii game sell. That's what happened with developers from the 1980s and 90s: the ones that clung to gaming PCs by and large vanished or absorbed each other, while the ones that embraced the more simplistic NES (and later Genesis and SNES) were the ones that survived.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

Because it is a cash cow. 130 games on Black Friday did 10,000 or more on the Wii. That's a cash cow especially when you think about it as in Wii development costs are that of PS2 games and sometimes a hell of a lot less. It's a console where you can put multiple titles out and have 1 succeed and make millions while the others may only sell 20,000 and they may actually make a profit out of that but if not only lose a little.

It's a non risky platform for the most part so of course devs are going to do these kinds of things. And with popularity comes attachments haha. Hell what did you think MS was trying to do with Wii60. Other corps like to attach themselves to its success which is why no surprise that BK would have Wii related toys and what not.

Wonder why people go directly into hardcore and casual labels.

I guess hardcore sounds more cooler than adult oriented material or adult content, etc.. Games that have a complex story, involves serious themes, killing, etc..
