Forums - Sales - Entertainment UK falls into administration. Resistance 2 unavailiable

Retailer Zavvi has had to cancel all videogame, film and music orders as supplier Entertainment UK falls into administration.

Only books, calendars and "a limited range of other products" will remain on sale for the time being, according to the Zavvi website.

Customers with existing orders for these suspended products will find out by email if their delivery cannot be fulfilled, and, if so, receive a full refund.

"We have not taken this decision lightly, but we believe that this is the right course of action under the circumstances," read a statement.

"We apologise for any inconvenience. Please be assure that we are doing all we can to resolve the situation as quickly as possible."

Naturally, Zavvi high street outlets with stock will be largely unaffected, although new releases, such as Resistance 2, are absent - as GamesIndustry.biz found out yesterday whilst snooping around like Columbo.

Entertainment UK also supplied WH Smith, which now has the same supply problems. Other retailers such as GAME, Gamestop and HMV are unaffected.

Retailers across the UK have yet to receive copies of the PlayStation 3 exclusive title Resistance 2, as distributor Entertainment UK struggles to supply stores before Christmas.

GamesIndustry.biz has learnt that EUK customers, Zavvi and WHSmith are still awaiting their supply of the anticipated first-person shooter, originally released on Friday November 28.

Key Zavvi stores in Brighton, London and Manchester are yet to carry the game, with one staff member explaining: "We seem to be having supply problems at the moment."

A spokesperson from Deloitte, which currently serves as the administrator of EUK and Woolworths, commented: "Since EUK went into administration, the administrators have either met or spoken with the majority of customers and suppliers and constructive talks are ongoing."

The spokesperson further added that the company couldn't confirm when the stores should expect copies to arrive. However, non-EUK stores, such as GAME and HMV, are currently supplied with stock.

Failure to ship a triple-A title could hamper Deloitte's ability to find a potential buyer for the company and it is yet to be seen if EUK will be able to keep up with busy launch schedule in the run up to Christmas.

Note: Currys got in contact with GamesIndustry.biz and said it had no issues with its supply of the game, Zavvi and WHSmith have been contacted for further comment.

i highlighted the red, as currys was the 2nd place i tried to buy R2 and they didnt have it on launch day, niether did asda or tesco, finally got mine from GAME.

do you think the game will be affected for long, or are any other games going to fall into same problem of supply from distributers?

Wait, wait, wait... people are blaming low sales on supply issues, when the only stores who have supply issues are... WHSmith, and Zavvi (+ Woolworths, ofc). My god, that is a terrible excuse. Absolutely terrible.

People need excuses, this was just the most easist one to find. I'm still confused on the whole matter.

who buys games from WHsmith ? And there is only one zavvi in my city centre and many many 'games' and 'gamestations'
inconclusion Resistance 2 sales shouldnt be affected, what is affecting resistance 2 sales is that it is coming out after all the other big games ; LBP, Gears 2, fable 2, Fallout 3, CoD WaW - people have already spent their money

I don't get how they could have fallen into admisinstration, tons of games have had to be shipped recently, but I assume they have the problems in other divisions

Okay, I'm told the distribution side of woolworths are profitable, so it should be fine once they sort out the administration, and split the company up

Heaven forbid you might have to go to a GAME shop in order to buy games .. Zavvi and WHSmith were just top notch places to purchase video games!! I kid.

If people really want R2 they will find a way to get it, like, walking across the other side of the high street.
