Sorry but I don 't agree, they just can't do it jet. Nintendo can upgrade or sell some hard/software too make it possible, but I don't see them do it. ( not primairy focus ) so it is not likely, but it is possible.

I've got a laptop. Any quick trip where I wouldn't want to carry a laptop around, I'm always driving anyway. Only use handhelds has for me is games, either at home or on long train/plane/hotel trips.

Well I do agree...I really don't think the Wii/DS has enough power to do it, or at least make it look decent. That's not really what my DS is for anyway. My DS is for Metroid, Mario and Meteos right now. MMMmm... Oh, and Mario Kart and Metroid Pinball, two more M's! BWA! I'm tired.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Watch spiderman 2, or advent children and be amazed. Why would I base my judgment off of a dead movie format that isn't even part of the discussion?
It is part of the discussion because UMD's are the only way you can see full resolution on your PSP. Any comments about blurriness during fast action scenes are not valid when talking about those.

Now what is nice about that idea, is the PS3 being able to convert video to a format that can be transfered over the internet on the fly... And then be watched ANYWHERE in the world. Now what is special about that is. You put your movie collection on the PS3. (60gb) Encode it in low quality to save size. You can fit a full length movie in about 1gb. Watch it anywhere in the world. Without haveing to carry 20 memory cards, discs... and stuff like that.
It's already possible to do that with the PSP by itself, no need to pay $600 more. You do need to purchase a device from Sony, which are still kind of expensive: http://www.learningcenter.sony.us/assets/itpd/locationfreetv/index.html I have my PSP set up to get TV and movies anywhere where there is an access point. The resolution is ok and the sound is ok. You can also set up your laptop to receive the transmission for your Location Free Device. It's pretty cool to have while you're at the coffee shop and want to catch up on some TV.

No. It just Cant. It takes a WHOLE LOT of power to encode MPEG4 / h.264 on the fly. It would probibally take 25-50% of the cell. If you dont beleive me. Go find PSPvideo9. And encode a video on your computer. That's how much power it would take. Second - The Wii would do a GREAT job of being used as a 'DATA BASE' Ya-know. The PSP comes with a 1gb memory card... Just as much as the Wii. You can get a 4GB Memory card for the PSP... Just like you can the Wii. The Wii will NEVER make for a media server untill it gets a HDD. Third. Yup. LocationFreeTV. Dont need to buy a 600$ PS3. You just have to buy a 200$ peice of hardware for the job, that cant play games. I have a PS3. I'd LOVE if it can stream multimedia to my PSP. I'm not intrested in buying a LocationFree. staticneuron - If you've played with the Remote Play on the PSP/PS3. Imagine that over the internet. It would be killer. In refrence. The Wii might be able to encode it on the go. But I highly doubt the DS has enough power to decode it. QUESTION: Does anyone have a modded DS, can you run MPEG4 on it? EDIT: The DS could possibly do this. However the fact nintendo has released ZERO support for audio/video on the DS. I would think it would never happen. The M3 video player for DS can play MPEG4. However, It would be still unknown as to what bitrate it is capable of, and if it could handle streaming it off the WiFi.

Kwaad's right on this one, x/h264 is VERY processor/video intensive, the Wii would probably have an extremely hard time playing back a video in this format, and encoding in it would be impossible. It may be able to do other formats, however.....

It sure looks good for size tho! Anime looks flawless at 330kbit. I'm currently encoding Kingdom of Heaven right now. I'll post back how it looks at 336kbit video, and 192kbit audio. (I understand that is higher than my internet connection would allow, but crap. It's only 1 video. I wanna put 10-20 of them on the PS3... :P EDIT: I just wanna say real quick that my old P4 2.8Ghz processor choked on Any video size bigger than 1280x1024 Useing MPEG4 style compression. That's not encodeing it wich takes about 5x more power than decodeing it. I am looking at 3-4 hours to encode Kingdom of Heaven to h.264. Now that is only useing 1core on my C2D. (my program sucks in some ways, but it's free and can convert anything to anything)

Not true. With the Spirderman UMD I can clearly see blurring in quick camera pans. The problem has nothing to do with how the format it is encoded in and everything to do with the response time of the screen. I'll repeat this to ensure that you don't overlook this: The PSP's screen has a slow response time, meaning it is prone to ghosting. Some scenes are worse than others because of the colors and although some forms of compression induce this, games and UMD's do blur like no other. And the part about full rez video isn't entirely true since some homebrew programs allow 272x480 video to be played.

Maybe I am unknowingly overlooking it. But after watching the rock, national treasure, SP2 and advent children on the PSP, I will honestly tell you I do not see it. I notice imperfections on my hdtv but i gues thats a different subject.
