I think Forza will have a bigger impact in NA then EU. It's a bigger seller there.

GT5 won't have any problems against Forza, it's a much bigger franchise. In fact GT5:P outsold Forza 2 in EU, and Forza has been out for over a year longer.

As for hardware sales, Forza 3 will need to be very impressive to pull car fanatics away from GT.

Alan Wake is a new IP and as such we can't judge it's sales. For all we know it could recieve terrible reviews and be a total flop. (I doubt it though, it looks great.)

The unannounced titles could contain a few bombshells, but as things stand at the moment it looks like MS have just had one their strongest (if not the strongest) software showings for a holiday season, and they will be hard pressed to match it in the coming years.

Sadly yes, those titles could indeed slip into 2010.

Forza 3 was heavily bundled in NA for a very long period of time so it's not big as GT anywhere. GT is such as monster of a franchise it will shine no matter what competition it has, the fact that Forza 3 is what MS have to combat GT5 is saying a lot.

I'm not really sure what you mean by your post. I bought my PS2 bundled officially with GT3. GT3 was bundled for ages here. So your arguement is? My point also is that GT 5 will not sell like it's predecessors. Why? The userbase is waferthin, and the software sales for exclusives are poor. GT5 is 12 months away. EU is loving the 360 at the moment so much so that with no releases for 360 and R2 debut in EU saw the 360 this week nearly outsell PS3 2:1. If you think that looks to change anytime soon, well I dont think so.

Everyone needs to remember to that we are likely to see a Slimline 360 next year, which again would cut the price and increase the demand. Also anyone who thinks that a gap of nearly 10 mill wont effect devs choice for making 360 exclusive are high. They could do it exclusive get the game out 1 year earlier and move onto the next project. So in effect will have more profit due to less dev time and more games over a period of 360's life.

2009 year of the PS3...........*runs away*

I laughed out loud in real life. And a second time. thanks buddy

God another thread that claims that Sony will be back in 2009. R2, MGS4 and LBP did not improve Sony's global situation, and i dont think Killzone 2 will. People should start enjoy their console and stop planning some sort of magical Sony comeback.

Most big games for Nintendo and 360 are not even announced yet for 2009. Which will be a year of the Wii just like the previous years.

@Dallinor

Perhaps you did not fully comprehend what I was saying about first and second party delivery this year for the 360 as compared to next year. I can think of only three first or second party titles for the console this year. Viva, Fable, and Banjo. Right now it is looking to be at least eight titles probably closer to nine titles. Which would be a 300% increase. That would be a massive increase, and that is what I mean when I say Microsoft was in a lull this year.

That lull was a significant advantage for Sony, and that advantage will not be present next year. This is not a debate about which games are better. I am sure your thinking that as you read this. No the point is volume of delivery. When Microsoft is delivering up to two exclusives every month, or more in some months that a rather strong statement to consumers.

Sony will be doing worse in that Microsoft will be doing much better, and in answer to your question about what could be a better holiday lineup then this years lineup
I would have to say it does not take much if you see it being merely two titles. With the kind of volume I am looking at next season could be five strong in the first party or second party. That is before any exclusive third party titles make the scene. Mass Effect 2 would be high in my estimation.

Sony Fanboys always say:
Just wait...

"Wait until..."
"Next year its gonna..."
"The future looks good..."
"I CAN'T WAIT to..."

Big difference:
We enjoy the present.
You hope for something to change.

Last year, over the same period, the PS3Fanboys were saying: "Wait till 2008!! It will fuckin be year of the PS3!!! The game lineup is far superior from the competition! PS3 will rule all!"

Same thing year over year.
Get real.

Microsoft brings the goods each time. They don't need to unveil all their games 1 year early, unlike Sony.
Look at Gears2:
Unveiled in February 2008.
Released in November 2008.

It must be painful to be a Sony fan.
Always hoping for a brighter future.

No. You guys are just as bad. Hello Alex Wake and Halo Wars, missed you in 2008. See you in 2009.

I think yu missed the point of the post. 360 owners dont use wait till Alan Wake as a reason of why the 360 will start outselling the PS3. Oh wait thats because it is outselling the PS3. What the poster meant was that PS3 owners constantly sya that XXXX year or XXXX game will blow 360 sales out of the water. And the last 2 years PS3 has been here it's lost both years.

Who says Sony fans aren't enjoying the present? MGS4, LBP, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2 and Valkyria Chronicles are just as good, if not better than the 360's '08 exclusives.

No wait, they are better. I'd take those games over Gears 2, Fable II, Ninja Gaiden 2 and Banjo any day :>

Also, @ your last post, the PS3 DID enjoy awesome games, commercial success and momentum gain (not a huge one, but compared to previous years....)

Looking at the sales numbers I would say not many PS3 users are enjoying those games... I'm not saying they're bad games, Valkyrie Chronicles is the one PS3 exclusives I want ported to the 360!! Just that PS3 users seem to be buying Tomb Raider Underworld and CoD WaW...

@ other comments made

- LA Noire is no longer a PS3 exclusive... unless its been reannounced
- MAG is more likely to be pushed to 2010 and still be a flop or dissappointment
- Resistance 2 = Killzone 2, I'm not sure why people are expecting miracles.. I'm not waiting for KZ Will be Huge threads/sigs
- Games that where not released in 2008 but talked about in 2007 include FFXIII, GT5, God of War 3, LA Noire, Home, Killzone 2,  Infamous, Tekken 6, Heavy Rain, White Knight Chronicles (? Dec in Japan only?)

The momentum is in Microsoft Hands.

When Sony will cut the prices... do you believe Microsoft will sit and stare?
Microsoft will probably cut another 100$ on Elites, and will replace Arcade by the Pro(60gb) at 199$.

Xbox Live is the online service of choice.
A true social phenomenon.

With all the big 2009 games for Microsoft (Mass Effect 2, Halo Wars, Alan Wake, Star Ocean 4, Halo3 ODST, GTA4 Lost and Damned, Ninja Blade, name it...), I don't know how Sony can gain ground...

This is the problem this gen now. Sony Fanboys so badly want some hope that their console of choice will come back rather then go the way of the GC and DC. But the pattern has already been set in stone this gen. Once the PS3 drops £100 Sony will lose a lot of money on the console. If they are already losing a lot of money they will not want to lose more due to "hope" people will buy it for that price. People have to be realistic and try and see beyond their tinted glasses. The demand for the PS3 has never been amazing. It has not posted numbers anywhere near the figures the 360 and Wii have posted both Hardware wise and Software wise. The games people list will never compare to the list of games it had this year. Uncharted 1 was a good game, nowhere near and A++ title game. Those people who already have a PS3 will be interested, those who don't i can gurantee you won't give a shit. It will be just like Resistance 2 now, it was hyped as the system seller but sales have been awful for the game. Uncharted 2 will not sell PS3's. The demand for it as mentioned is not high, this is what people need to accept. Everytime the Wii or the 360 sell something that does well people come out saying "you wait til xyz comes out, the 360 will be crushed!". Well MGS4, didn't do it, Haze didn't do it, Ratchet and Clank didn't do it, Socom didn't do it, Warhawk didn't do it, Heavenly Sword didn't do it, Lair didn't do it, Uncharted didn't do it, Resistance 1&2 didn't do it. LittleBigPlanet didn't do it, GTA4 didn't do it etc.. etc.. etc.. There always has to be another game that will make the console come back because people want to believe it. They don't like the idea that they have paid so much money for a console that could come last this generation. It must sell as many as the PS2! Which is just not going to happen.

The gap between the 360 and PS3 is increasing and the only thing that will stop it is a change of reputation and a massive price decrease. They need to make people want to buy it. While the 360 is cheaper it is not cheap, people don't just spend that money every day on stuff. It is something that is built up over time. When the PS3 drops it's price by $50 to $100 in march that will have a nice boost for the console that would be expected. That is what happened this year. The PS3 had a price cut and it benefited from it. BUT when it gets to September and near holiday time again the 360 will drop in price again and this will again destroy the PS3 in the xmas sales which will re-coup the gap from the 6 months before. This is what happened this year and this is what will happen next year. Add to this fact the 360 has a massive line-up of NEW exclusive first time IP's coming out, that is what people are craving, new exciting things. Look at the two previous games of the year (Gears and Bioshock) all new ip's. This is the pattern of this gen and this is why the PS3 won't be able to catch up because it won't be given the chance to. The console was at one point over 1m units ahead of the 360 this year, that lead has gone almost. Which means at the end of the PS3's 3rd year on the market it will most likely still be 6m-7m units behind the 360. At a ratio of 1m a year the PS3 will take bare minimum 6 years to get level with the 360, by that time we will be about to join the next gen.

Maybe I'm just picking and choosing what I read but there's only 1 line that even makes reference to the "year of the playstation 3." It's more about the "Delaystation" tone in which he was saying things that got on my nerves. Playstation 3 has released almost every game that was made reference to at E3 this year. Microsoft pull the same crap on a consistant basis as Sony. Look at Too Human, Alex Wake, Halo Wars, and a few others for an example. Microsoft fans don't get overly excited and freak out on forums nearly as much as Sony fans do but it still does happen on an occasion.

Also, a quarter from the year doesn't mean that it outsold it for the year overall. So lets be honest, we all like to pick and choose what we want to hear. And when it comes down to it, Sony and Microsoft will finish the year at relatively the same in sales.

Oh. Also, I was basically defending the fact that I personally enjoy my Ps3 games that are out. I don't think that any of the Sony fans are disappointed with the games that came out tihs year. Yes, We all get hyped up over certain games that are coming out because we're excited over them. And just because we do this, doesn't mean that we don't play the games that have already come out and it doesn't mean that we don't enjoy them just as much as we do hyping new games. And in all honesty, when Gamecube was out and people were saying "hey, this thing is crap. Nintendo are going to never make a console again," they ended up perservering and making a completely new experience. Being in third place could very well help Sony out. And no, this isn't the "Ps4 is going to be the biggest console" comment, it's merely just saying that being in third place tends to inspire a company to just try harder for the next generation.

Also, I recall certain people on the 360 forums pointing out how amazing their games are. And that Tomb Raider Underworld was just as good if not better looking than Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. And that Too Human, Infinite Undiscovery and Last Remnant were going to be the most amazing games of the year. Also saying "Metal Gear Solid IV is going to be ported any day now..." or some other completely straight up crack pot ideas that people on the microsoft forums insist to be the truth and no reviewer, nor gaming site shall tell them otherwise.

I agree with you that M$ do talk about future games. However I disagree with the delaystation part. So many games on PS3 miss their release dates. KZ2 for instance I remember when it was Summer 2007 LOL. GT5 has forever been pushed back as has FF13. Numerous other games have had late releases on PS3 due to dev time. Unfortunatley The PS3 is a delayed console. You would be hard pushed to find any 360 game outside 3 months of it's original target.

2009 will be the year of both the X360 and the PS3.

Contrary to what many fink, the X360 has at least as much price drop potential as the PS3 - at least in the United states:

PS3 launch price: $600 (only two years ago)
PS3 now price: $400 = price drop already $200 in 2 years

X360 launch price: $400 (three years ago!)
X360 now price: $300 = price drop only $100 in 3 years

Conclusion: logically the X360 has a lot more room to cut it's price.

On the other hand the PS3 has slightly stronger game line-up for 2009 which evens out the price advantage of the X360 a little bit.

Both consoles will sell 11-12 million in 2009.
