If this isn't confirmation they are working hard on the next Zelda, I don't know what is.

"As someone who is still working on the series, I have mixed feelings about that. Because I haven't yet surpassed it, I can't quit. Surprisingly, that simple motivation may be the reason I continue to work on the Zelda series."

This was an excerpt from the Nintendo Power interview, try and find a scan, the interview was very long and full of interesting information.

They wanted to surpass Oot with TP. The game is 10 years old and still can't be surpassed. Kind of frustrating for new zelda devs :P

Well, what happens when he surpasses it? If he works on a game that surpasses OOT, could he then not quit until he surpasses that game that surpasses OOT? It's like an infinite chain of surpassion (yes, a new word) that will never be surpassed.

That's great that the developers want to make a Zelda game as good as Ocarina of Time. I hope that the next Zelda title will be released real soon. I am hoping to purchase a Wii in the near future.

They will never surpass OoT because part of what made OoT amazing is that it made the jump to 3D, and they did an awesome job of it. There is nothing revolutionary that they can do to make surpass OoT.

Kinda like FF7.

The closest Aonuma came to dethroning OoT was with Majora's Mask. The Wind Waker was awesome, but not even in the same league. And he paid way too much homage to OoT with Twilight Princess. It would take something very unique to dethrone OoT. I don't think it'll happen for another few generations.

I don't know of any director/producer/developer working on a sequel of a known franchise that doesn't want to do better than the last installment so this is hardly news lol :P
