Forums - Gaming - wii xmas line up review predictions

Who thinks Nintendos xmas line up will live up to the hype. Im talking about the big 3, Galaxy, Metroid and SSBB.

I think these are very important games as they will show how well the wii can handle traditional games. If Nintendo create masterpieces of gaming which they usually do then i think it will attract more traditional gamers and help the system last in the long run. If they turn out to be below expectations i think those traditional gamers (some of which already own wii's) will lose interest in the machine and cause it to have a short life expectancy. I cant see the wii surviving in 3-4 years time with brain academy's and party games.

For my predictions im using gamespot, ign and edge (a highly acclaimed mag here in the uk), anyway my predictions are:

Metroid:

  • Gamespot: 8.5
  • IGN : 9.0
  • Edge 8

 Galaxy:

  • Gamespot: 8
  • IGN: 9.0
  • Edge: 8

 SSBB:

  • Gamespot: 9.0
  • IGN: 9.4
  • Edge: 8

The reason i came up with this thread is that i was shocked when the wii came out at how low the review scores were, especially gamespots review of zelda. I never thought id see the day a zelda game got below a 9 out of 10. I kinda felt that they were being harsh on the games because of the graphics or that they were simply to different (wii sports) and harder to judge for review. After playing zelda for myself i can say i think it should have got around a 9.5, its def one of my favs in the series.

Your MP3 picks look a little right to me, but I'm thinking you're lowballing the other to me.

If Super Mario Galaxy is as fun as they say it is, it's not going to get below a 9 from many people at all. Everybody that has played it has come out saying how beautiful the music it, how great it works, and most importantly, it's comparable to the sheer awesomeness of Super Mario 64. I actually don't think I've really read anything negative about this game yet from any of the impressions.

With SSBB, we already know that SSBM has an average of 90 so I'm expecting SSBB to be about the same. It's taking everything fun about Melee and it's then adding some. If it does have online I also wouldn't expect anything less than a 9 for this game.

I think that those ratings are quite close to what I think their going to be.

But I don't know why I wouldn't be surprise if Mario Galaxy gets a 10 somewhere.

To me the most important one is Mario Kart.

About the Wii showing offf "hardcoreskillz"... Resident Evil 4 plays 1000 times better on the Wii than the others. Resi5 looks awesome and I really want to play it, but just to think that I'm going to have to aim with the stick gives me the creeps.

So yeah, I think that this Christmas the Wii will sell, as it will be, again, the cheaper console and it will have a decent line up.

And about the Wii being a hardcore console; if anyone has all S ranks on Excite Truck, please let me know, I'm on mirror now and this game is really hard.

This game is probably one of the most hardcore games I've ever played, in terms of gameplay of course.

Also R-Type on the VC, turbografx version, god! this game is impossible.

Sorry for getting out of topic :p

Hum, if your Edge predictions are anywhere close, that "highly acclaimed mag" seems a bit hard on Nintendo...

The IGN scores you have there are probably pretty close, though maybe a little higher on Galaxy, possibly Metroid.

I don't really pay attention to Gamespot.

Electronic Gaming Monthly, a big mag in the states, will probably give all 3 between a 9.5 and 10 (not lower than a 9), I can almost guarantee it. And they're pretty tough on games, generally speaking.

Prediction: Wii passes 360 in US between July - September 2008. (Wii supply will be the issue to watch, and barring any freak incidents between now and then as well.) - 6/5/08; Wow, came true even earlier. Wii is a monster.

Mario Galaxy is going to be reaching for 10s, I can sense it...

I'd guess an average of 8.8 for Metroid, 9.6 for Mario, and Brawl...

If it has online, I'd say like a 9.2. If it doesn't, I'd say a 9.0 or maybe 8.8. Honestly, online is simply a plus for Brawl, but so many people expect it, including reviewers, and it'll be a disappointment and a lower score for not including it.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I don't really believe in Gamespot for reviews :P

My guesses would be like this, using a score the game will get on average:

Metroid Prime 3: 8.9

Super Mario Galaxy: 9.6

Super Smash Bros. Brawl: 9.2

Scratch that, I'd say 9.2 for Metroid. Reviewers like Metroid, generally.
