Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan First Day Sales (11/20)

Samus - No.

Chrono Trigger and Gundam are both core titles that most likely won't even double sales over the rest of the week. Traditionally, games move anywhere from 50-75% of the First Day sales over the rest of the week. Except in casual games' cases, such as Animal Crossing.

Next week, the charts should look something like:

Animal Crossing ~ 450k
Chrono Trigger ~ 250k
Gundam ~ 250k
The Last Remnant ~ 140k

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Stickball- I hope you´re right, I would love to see Animal Crossing sell that much. But didn´t Wii Music start out at 54k or something and up at 90-100k  more than 50% sales on day one and that one sure was casual wasn´t it? Anyway I hope you´re right.

@mrstickball: I think retailers don't want to be out of stock in this period of the year, that's why they're probably overstocked on a game that will probably have continued high sales for the rest of the year.

I personnaly think they - the retailers - have overestimated the consumer's demand. Even if the sales are to double across the week, and then to maintain the same level the following weeks, that still would make 2 weeks and a half worth of stock. That's a lot, especially when you consider that you usually only need 2 days to get a new shipment in Japan. And it is not in the retailer's interest to have too much stocks (waste of shelf and warehouse's space - and so money).

In my opinion, they wouldn't have had any problem with only half this shipment.

Well, anyway, this is just details. This is the 2nd or 3rd best start on the Wii, there's no doubt it is a success.

I really doubt your AC. SMG was 130K first day and 250K 1st week, right? Could be possible though. Hope you're right.

Anyway, all those titles open at the expected/above it. Cheers.

[PSP] Prinny: Ore ga Shujinkou de Iinsuka? (Nippon Ichi) - 10k

Dood. Poor prinnies. Their sufferings will never stop.

Actually, given that this is a low cost spin-off game, I'm sure that these sales are enough to make the game profitable.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but SMG is far more core-driven (audience wise) than Animal Crossing. ACGC sold a scant 92,000 units its first week, on it's way to 641,000 as per Famitsu data.

With numbers like that, I think it's entirely plausible to think that 2x the first day sales is the bare minimum that ACWii is going to sell. Numbers should be between 2x (worst case) and 3x (almost best case). We've seen tons of DS games have hyper-legs even in their first week, and I feel that ACWii, since it has the stock, could do the same.

Now, I agree that Wii Music didn't have those kinds of legs - it was only 2x. But we've seen that since Wii Music has debuted, that the game did, infact, have sucky legs all together (I mean, absolutely pitiful legs for a first-party Wii title). I really don't see Animal Crossing Wii doing that. ACWii has pedigree (pun intended) that Wii Music, for all of it's hype, didn't have - in the way of being a good sequel.

Personally, 400-450k for ACWii is very likely. I'd eat my hat if it was anything below 350k.

Everything did well except motorstorm. LBP and wii music should do well also, I suppose. Christmas is coming in Japan!

Go buy Metroid OTHER M!

Wii code: 6775-1034-2238-1634

PSN: birdie93      XBL: luthor93

3DS: 3909-7597-9889

You can add me, I won't stop you!

My website: www.fight4custom.com

I'm not surprised why retailer order many copies of AC : City folks ,AC quite popular on GC and its a Ninty game.

Looking on Wii sales these days ,it won't hurt if you order many copies to stock this game before X'mas and new year. This game guarantee itself thay'll sold out quite sure.

Btw, i'm said this from my retailer's opinion. Not any kind of fanboy ,didn't try to be something else.

nice for Animal Crossing

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Sounds like you're correct. 400K + in Japan alone would be a golden opening, and even higher than Wild World's. If it really opens that good, I guess we could be seeing over 1M by the end of the year (Japan only), and possibly 2M lifetime (so, on par with MKWii and Brawl)
