a console with just a few good games killing the 360, and their big guns are yet to come, it's safe to say that Nintendo has taken back it's top spot.

When was it ever at the top? hehehehe just jokin, I see nintendo might win this gen again I say might, there's always the ps3..

Yesterday you were a SF and now you're not?

Who ever made you think that idea? I support sony, and grew up with nintendo, but no matter what they will always keep competing, I never had hate towards nintendo in any way, I did hate sony. But times have changed

To get back to CK's question:

Probably not for Halo 3, definitely not GTA. Even the biggest releases only shift a few extra hundred thousand units, and even if the Wii doesn't pass until September (the first few days are essentially the worst-case scenario now), it will likely have a healthy 300K-400K lead by Sept. 15. By the time GTA4 is released, Halo will have briefly sliced that lead down, but it will have a few weeks to build it back again.

I didn't want to start whole thread for this.  But this is from Gonintendo.com.  I made a half joke over there that it is a system seller.  But it is kinda true.  This might both encourage casuals to buy a Wii and sell a ton of copies itself (not madden terretory, but a lot).  Is this the type of games you think casuals can really relate to?

Nah, Madden itself is a game that appeals to "casuals".  There are plenty of people who buy Madden and play very little besides it.  Sure there is the "Hardcore" must rule online group... but even a lot of them fall into the "Sports Guy" group that really couldn't care about Lair, the Wiimote or Halo.

Galaxy is going to move a fair share of units too, don't forget that.

Galaxy isn't released in the time-frame under discussion.

Not to mention I don't think a game can move units when the systems are selling out before it's even released... I mean right now at most a wii game could move theoretical units.

madden a system seller? Come on, it's on every system imaginable and there is already 2 previous versions on 360.

Take it the fact that it does the best on 360 and will regardless of how many platforms. (PS2 has a chance.)

The price drop placed RIGHT before madden is also very smart.

I don't think so ...... Madden 08 comes in 3 weeks. That will moves more units.

Except the Wii will already be ahead by August 14. The price drop is far more significant than Madden, and even that won't make the 360 outsell the Wii worldwide. The Wii will be on top once the data from the week ending August 18-19 comes in.

Madden and the price drop will be in first effect on week ending August 18-19. Thats why I think 3 weeks is too soon. Maybe 4 or 5.

So you've noticed it's the same week.

Thing is, since it is the same week, and the Wii was already going to outsell it that week, that won't delay anything unless the 360 manages to almost outsell the Wii worldwide that week... which is not gonna happen. If anything, this speeds things up, as once the price drop is common knowledge (once those flyers go around) 360 sales will drop in anticipation.

PS: I hope you've noticed that at the time of your post there were 4 weeks missing before August 19, not 3.

Even if we took the assumption that Madden was a system seller, Wii will likely already have passed 360 by that point.  Wii currently outsells 360 by 4 or 5 to 1 worldwide, for 360 to make up any ground it would need to sell 4-5 times its normal levels WW.  Madden and the price drop have no effect on Europe and Japan, so it is even more difficult.

Do you realize the PS2 version of madden 07 sold 3.59 million copies while the 360 one only sold 1.69 million?  Yea...i think PS2 has a little bit more than a chance.  The whole point is that people don't need to buy a 360 to get madden, that's why it's not a system seller.  Also the hardcore fans that may have wanted madden would have bought it last year or the year before that, this is the 3rd madden game on 360.

The Wii will have five weeks to build a lead on the 360 before Halo 3 comes out, which comes out to about 900k units if current trends hold out. There's seven weeks between the American releases of Halo 3 and Super Mario Galaxy. For the 360 to stage a comeback during that timeframe, it'd have to sell something like 365k units a week for all seven of those weeks. That's not impossible, but it sounds like a bit much to me.

Factors that would change that analysis are the 360 price drop and the likely increase in Wii/360 sales for the holiday shopping season.

I feel pretty confident in saying that the 360 will not have a sustained 7 week average of 365k following Halo 3's release.  For those unaware of the dates this time frame is referring to it is Sept 25th, 2007 to Nov 12th, 2007. This is actually an 8 week time period which means it has 8 weeks to catch up which would require it to hit ~319k a week by RPGuy96's numbers.

I didn't check your math since you provided nothing to base it on so my statement hinges on the accuracy of your information. Just wanted to state that so nobody asks me where I got my numbers...I got them from this guy ^^
