Yeah. I consider Metroid Prime to be one of the apexes of the entire medium, so maybe it's my standards that are too high, but I wouldn't put hope in any other first person shooter matching that one for depth of narrative (unless its title ends in "shock") |
Hum...do you mean just Metroid Prime 1? I played MP3 and I was not impressed at all with the narrative. CoD4, however, has a fantastic story.

Seriously? I thought CoD4's story was an inconsequential mess. The SAS are fighting Russians while the Marines are fighting Middle Easterns, and somehow it all links to the same man, and all of the Marines die, and they're all so matter-of-fact about it that you'd think this happens every week!
That and the ending was crap. Seriously crap. One of the worst anti-climaxes I've ever seen. I hated the campaign.
I thought the excellent multiplayer was all that saved it from mediocrity. Hopefully Killzone 2 won't be like that and, like Halo, it will have a great single player and excellent multiplayer.
Also, Killzone 2 will be HUGE! This time it's not a new IP, it's got amazing graphics, it's 3D and it's an FPS. And there's no way it includes any offensive music. And it's rated M. What can go wrong now?
EDIT: And the 360 won't have a price cut to compete with it, so it should sell consoles as well!

You play as 3 different people. The story makes sense if you pay attention. There are so many great moments in CoD4, including the ending. Talking more about it would spoil it, but I really liked it.
Halo did not have a great single player. Neither did Gears.
It leads to the same guy because he was planning the whole thing. Also, not all the marines die considering the whole 'joint operation' thing for the last few levels and the fact that Griggs is also taking part in this operation as well.
I also disagree about the ending, it was good and I enjoyed the campaign.
To each his own, I suppose. In my opinion, that should be nominated for the worst FPS campaign of all time.
I don't know what it was. I had no trouble following the MGS4 campaign, which was far more complicated, right? Besides, the CoD4 campaign was too short. I swear it was around four hours at most. Hopefully Killzone 2 will be at least 10 hours. Probably more, since they've been developing it for three years now. CoD4 was done in two years right?
EDIT: Also, not enough characterisation was done in the Marine parts, IMO. I felt like I knew who Soap, Gaz and Captain Price were after the SAS campaign, and the memory level helped with that. Sergeant Jackson though... I was almost glad he died. Also, for some reason, the SAS maps were generally more fun to play. I found the Marine maps too open and large. I think if they had just focused on the SAS section and made it longer, that campaign could have been great.

To each his own, indeed. I enjoy shorter games unless they are made by Kojima or Square-Enix. I thought Resistance 1 dragged on too long. I've enjoyed Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Devil May Cry 4, Ratchet, and other games that aren't that long.
Not that being short is always good, because Gears didn't have much of a story...
Oh well, that's why there are so many shooters, I guess. I need to finally play Halflife at some point, too. I hear those are long. I always just played Counter-strike.
I'm not a big FPS fan by any stretch of the imagination and even I enjoyed the CoD4 campaign. I thought the story was excellent. They did great job of tying things all together. To each his own, I suppose.
The IGN preview, or whatever you wish to call it, tempered the expectations. When it said it was beefy, but sluggish...or pass off the shonky balance and inconsistent aiming of the game's weaponry as a necessary sacrifice...in my opinion, that is not appealing.
Hah, Tycho sure is funny. Sounds like he enjoys it, too! :P
