Forums - Sales Discussion - Microsoft looks to 100 million consoles with 360, NPD to show 2:1 ratio to PS3 for October

The 360 will continue to be sold for as long as it sells. So likely it will be sold for for at least a while after the next Xbox model is out.

You do know the only way Wii sales are going until Christmas is up right? Also, the "Wii is a fad argument" is so old that it has retired and went to Florida by now.

The Wii now is 2 years on the market. The customers of the Wii mainly are people who didn't ever buy a console before so the live cycle of the Wii also could be different from the typical live cycle of a console.

Yes. It will probably last far longer than the usual console. And at the end if its third year, a typical console probably has past 60% of its lifetime sales.

It also could last shorter than the usual console.

Sorry, but no, the reason fads die out is because there is nothing new to keep it going once the initial wow factor fades, however the Wii, being a gaming system doesn't have that issues, because they can keep on releasing new games that keep the wow factor going, in addition the Wii has the benefit of being a viral system, in that when you show it to people who haven't played it before, they want one for themselves.

The reason that Wii will have a longer life cycle and higher sales is because it can continue to replensish its line with new Wii games, like Wii Sports 2 which is coming out in the spring, in addition its older games can continue to drag in more people when they see or hear about things like Wii fit and Wii sports and the such.

Nintendo's new ads for Animal crossing for example is brilliant, rather than showing much game footage, they are focused on having women hanging around with each other and just talking as they play, talking about shopping or meeting people, its a very smart ad.

And Nintendo has yet to announce new colors or a price drop, so they will be easily able to replenish demand for their system in the future.

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Yes of course it could. But even if Wii somewhat stopped at 80 million, X360 would need to push PS2 numbers to get at 75 million - which is more unlikey than Wii actualy linger like previous leaders and sell ~200 million.

The initial wow-factor was/is the waggle-controller. This factor someday has lost its potential.

And women sitting around, talking about shopping also can do this while playing a 360 or PS3....

Not with the games on the PS3 and 360, the games on the Wii are more conducive, like truckosaurus said, womena aren't going to be doing it while playing gears, but animal crossing on the other hand is perfect for that type of conversation, and no the controller hasn't lost its appeal yet, since its still being used in the games

So basically facts have no bearing with you. You hope the Wii suddenly stops selling inspite of its increasing sales numbers. The Wii has consistently been outselling the combined sales numbers of the PS3 and 360 worldwide. Unless you can point to something factual, stop pretending to be presenting an actual argument. Just come out and say you wan the Wii to fail.

But there aren't just FPSs available for 360 and PS3....

Yeah but those are the big ticket games on the PS3 and 360, the Wii on the other hand psuhes games like Animal crossing as one of its premier games, games that appeal more to the female demographic
