Forums - Sales - Why have most of the games bombed shamefully in Japan this gen?

It's primarily because 220 of said 380 games are on very poorly-performing consoles in Japan - the X360 and PS3.

Since neither console has an amazing userbase, it's kind of hard to sell games when no one owns the system.

Go look at the DS - it's selling games hand over fist, and it's a HANDHELD for crying out loud. It has the user base, and the users are certainly lapping up everything that's made available.

mgs4 sold quite well in japan. so would tales of vesperia if it were on ps3.

Yet neither game holds a candle to what Nintendo has released on the Wii. Had MGS4 released on the Wii, it'd be safe to assume that it may have sold better (same with ToV, obviously).

Most every game (at least that's my assumption) should sell better on the best-selling console. Maybe the Wii doesn't have the right userbase yet, but you'd like to think that it'd give a developer the best chance in Japan, of making money. But unfortunately, we haven't seen many impressive non-Nintendo results. But I think it does prove that if the developer tries, it may be able to do well.

but the problem is that the 3rd party sales on wii arent really that high.

MGS4 on the Wii probably woudn't have been the same game at all so hard to say how it would have done...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

@ Trestres, well by your logic I'd rather game sales just suck all around then only be good on the wii, they're kicking enough ass.

Wow, you are so very selfish. Wanting home console gaming to die, because not all the games will be going to your system of choice. Very sad. If Japanese console gaming dies, it will be a very huge hit towards gaming. Maybe you should just have to accept that HD gaming isn't as viable in Japan as it's the Wii. Games on the Wii have more than double the sales potential, but devs keep on ignoring that fact. When PS2 was the market leader, there was no question about it, as it received more than 95% of all the games. Same should be happening with the Wii, it's only logical but devs keep on ignoring and shitting on the Wii and they are only hurting themselves, since Nintendo has no troubles at all. They can always sell their games on their consoles.

The only solution to the falling home console industry is that devs start making Wii games. If they don't then considering they haven't announced anything else for the HDs in a very long period, it will mean that the only interest they have is portable gaming. We can then be sure that Nintendo killed its home console with its portable one, but it wasnt all their fault, since stubborn and stupid third parties did all they could for it to happen.

It's hypocritcal to say that someone is selfish to want more games on your console of choice. You want the quality stuff that third parties are doing on PS3 and 360 to be done on Wii.

Wii used to be on fire, it all went down the drain towards the end of '07.

Bet - "PES 2009 (PS3) will sell (closer to) 150k first week in Japan" - Pooperscopper
"It will sell closer to 125k" - Me I agree.
ME = OWNED :(

End of '09 Predictions:

Wii: 78 million
X360: 35 million
PS3: 27 million

Lol, I hate them because they are releasing shovelware. I don't care if they release 10 AAA games on the HD consoles, what I hate is that they release, specially Ubisoft, unfinished, broken and rushed games. Way to troll man, you succeeded.

You contradicted yourself buddy. Why hate them for releasing shovelware or broken games if they release 10 AAA games on HD systems? Oh right, becuase the shovelware is going to your console of choice.

Also, on a side note, you are the first person ever on this site to call me a troll.

Rightfully so you were called, since what you did was in fact troll.

Besides, I didn't contradict myself. One thing doesnt make the other one.
Ubisoft could be releasing games with effort on the Wii at the same time they release them on the HDs. In fact Ubisoft has been by far the worst developer on the Wii and not because their games may be casual, that I dont care. But because they release unfinished products and broken games. That's just an insult to the Wii userbase and it's not because they are forced to, it's because they want to. Try to get your fanboyism away for once and see what I'm talking about. That's my last post on you attempt to derail my thread, if you do it again I'll report you.

It obvious that you dislike them because they do not put effort into games on the Wii...your console of choice.

Also, go ahead and report me. I've done nothing but disagree with some of your posts because I felt that they were hypocritical. Hell, if you're going to report somebody, you should report one of the first five posters in this thread who posted off-topic flamebait.

How am I being hypocritical, care to tell me? I don't want all the games for my console, but having most of the big games on the Wii is probably the only way to save Japanese home console gaming. If not, just go and tell Sony and MS that they have to sell more consoles in order for 3rd parties to have an audience to sell their games to, since most of the West doesn't care for their games. Could you make Japanese buy more HD consoles? I think not, and you should accept that the leader this time is the Wii. With all the big releases so far for the HD consoles you know HD consoles aren't going anywhere this gen in Japan. History is repeating itself in Japan, the only difference being that the Wii hasn't seen any support so far, while PS2, PS1 and SNES had all seen excellent support by this time into their lives.

@OP: I can understand why you'd wonder, I do too. Japan has been really weird and unpredictable this gen, maybe they are discontent over too few erotic games on the handhelds? Almost every single "big in Japan" title has either bombed or done considerably worse than most people expected. For a record breaking gen in sheer amount of hardware sold and total revenue thus far, Japan sure ain't moving those core titles this time around.

Because not enough people in JPN are buying the games.....

I just had to say it.......

4 ≈ One

Yeah, what happened in Japan? Wii DS and PSP fell off and DS and PSP were only recently saved by refreshes.
