Today's the day!  I've been playing the L4D demo since Thursday, and it is such an awesome game.

Here's the Steam link, the demo should be up now: http://store.steampowered.com/app/530/

Some impressions:

It looks GREAT.  I don't understand naysayers of the Source engine...it runs smoother than TF2 but looks better than HL2: Ep2.  Shiny textures everywhere, flashlight effects are great, the models are high-quality, and it really does pack a lot of zombies onscreen at once.

They only give you the first map and half of the second map, which means there are 18 and a half more maps to play.  And yet I've been having tons of fun just on those 1.5 maps.  The zombies are always in different spots, you never know where a boss infected is going to be, and when a Tank or Witch shows up, it's always exciting you're screwed especially when the witch is guading the exit on the 2nd level.

I could blab on, but there's not much more to say.

Download the free demo today!  It ends on Nov. 18th when the full game comes out.  And you can still pre-purchase for $5 off.

Fixed!

And yeah, amazing game.  I have been staying away from the demo just because I don't want to risk it getting old but damn the game is so amazing.  I can't wait until the 18th.

Fixed. I honeslty can't see this getting old. Every play through something absolutely epic happens, so much so that epic things have become the norm and now we've moved on to Legendary Happenings every so often. Get this game, it's absolutely awesome.

This game looks good. The previews have looked good and have me interested. I may drop the $60 on this, but will wait for review first.

Oh, don't worry.  I've had it preordered since the first few minutes you could preorder it on Steam.  This is easily my most anticipated game of the year.

And haven't had too much trouble with witches (well, except for the time I walked up and stuck a shotgun in ones face thinking that would take care of it), it's the tanks that get me.  Those things are just brutal.

The tanks have to be our worst enemy ever. They tear through doors so qucikly and even with a molotov, and all 4 of us shooting it it lives through 2 doors and then goes on to kill 2 od us. Absolutely merciless. My friend spawned as a tank once and in ecpert mode they have about 10k health. Also they can push somoe cars around when they hit them. He hit that car alarm car right into 3 of us and we died right on impact.

Apparently yes; it was some sort of super-duper double secret probation demo only visible/available to select users.

I thought it was an open demo. And on XBL, open to "gold members" last week.

It was the same for 360 and PC, those that pre-ordered got early access...had nothing to do with gold memberships, though I'm guessing you need one...?

Anyway, it is Valve's way of rewarding faithful customers, if you pre-order you get $5 off and early access to the demo.  If you're unsure about a Valve product (for shame!) then just ignore the fact that others played it last week, because the demo is available to everyone now.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
