We are becoming like the movie market, expecting huge numbers at first and die out. But the biggest games and biggest movie to date had fairly decent first week sales. It's all in the legs.

Well R1 was a launch period game, it's tough to sell a lot when there are not enough consoles. but yes there is nothing wrong with 500k first week sales.

With that debut it seems squilliam is going to lose his bet..

The 2.1 million number for gears is NA alone or World wide?

Comparing launches sales for Resistance and Resistance 2 is simply not fair. The first Resistance had an incredibly stunted launch in America due to small sales and most everyone trying to sell their PS3s on eBay. The European launch was not too shabby, but it was still only a launch sized userbase to sell to. By many standards, these sales are disappointing. The PS3 should be able to have bigger launches considering its userbase. However, on the standards of development cost and stand alone games sales, you could claim this is successful.

I am EXTREMELY pleased With Resistance 2's opening week!

I had predicted 200K - 300K on the other thread.....this is a fantastic number!

If EU is similarly strong we have a 1 Million Week 1 game on our hands

R2 was a success. I expect it to be THE big PS3 game this holiday season. I'll check it out.

Well considering its just one region, and the amount of competition the game is going against, it did very well for its debut, it should sell a similar amount in OTHERS or around 100-200k more units, this would push it to having more than 1 million sales First week if you were to look at it in a world wide scale, just like gears 2 sold 2.1 million 1st day.

MGG4 sold over million first month with the install base of 4.5 million. And remember we are in holiday season and with much better install base.

I still consider it a disappointment considering that Gears of War managed a better launch 2 years ago. Then again, Resistance is the master of legs. Perhaps it will sell a lot more long term.
